Workplace Description The projects will be conducted within the research group Cell, Tissue and Organ Engineering, led by Dr. Paul Bourgine. Bone tissue is a complex organ that provides the body with structural and mechanical support, but also serves as our most important hematopoietic center where blood cell formation occurs. Bone tissue formation proceeds through several different stages, including development of cartilage, blood vessels, bone, and bone marrow. The Bourgine lab's goal is to build knowledge specifically about these processes in humans to enable the development of innovative regenerative therapies. Within the research group, we value a good work environment with respect and care in our relationships with one another. We continuously work to create conditions for job satisfaction, development, and participation for all employees. We are now seeking a postdoctoral researcher for a fixed-term full-time position with a start date of September 15, 2026, or by agreement. We Offer Lund University is a state authority, which means you will receive special benefits, generous vacation, and a favorable occupational pension. Read more on the university's website about working at Lund University. Duties and Responsibilities The postdoctoral researcher will work with the following tasks: Development and optimization of a GMP-compatible hydrogel formulation. Rheological characterization and testing of hydrogel injectability and extrusion force. Design and validation of clinically adapted packaging (syringe or cartridge system). Stability, sterility, and release criteria testing in collaboration with colleagues in quality assurance (QA) and regulatory affairs. Documentation of protocols and standardized operating procedures (SOPs) according to GMP and regulatory requirements. Support for preclinical studies in both large animals and rodents as needed. Additional duties include maintaining laboratory records and performing associated administrative tasks, as well as actively participating in seminars and other relevant meetings. Qualifications To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, you must hold a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree. This qualification requirement must be met by the time the employment decision is made, and proof of fulfilling this requirement must have been received by that time. Priority is given to advancement in research, but also to some extent in higher education pedagogy. Teaching may also be included in the work duties. When employing a postdoctoral researcher, primary consideration will be given to scientific competence in the field. Other Qualifications The position requires: Doctoral degree (PhD) in biology, bioengineering, biomedical engineering, materials science, or a related field. Documented international research experience, for example through portions of doctoral studies, a postdoctoral period, or research visit conducted abroad. Documented experience in research within biomaterials, hydrogels, or tissue engineering. Solid laboratory and analytical skills and the ability to work both independently and in interdisciplinary research environments. Extensive experience with 2D and 3D cell culture of human cells. Experience with cartilage and bone tissue engineering. Experience with rheological characterization and/or analysis of injectability of hydrogels or other biomaterials. Experience in developing and studying bone microenvironments. Strong English language skills, both spoken and written. Meritorious for the position: One or more peer-reviewed scientific publications as first author. Experience with culture and differentiation of human mesenchymal stem cells. Background in biomaterials science and/or polymer synthesis. Experience with 3D printing/additive manufacturing. Experience writing protocols and standardized operating procedures (SOPs) in a documented and quality-controlled environment (e.g., GMP or GLP). Experience with animal experiments (in vivo studies, animal handling, and/or surgical procedures). Terms The position is a fixed-term employment for two years, 100%, with a start date of September 15, 2026, or by agreement.
