Postdoctoral Researcher in Human Interaction with Humanoid Unitree G1

The Department of Computing Science is seeking a postdoctoral researcher for the project "Human Interaction with the Humanoid Unitree G1" within WASP, led by Lecturer Zoe Falomir. Project Description and Work Tasks This project proposes the implementation of a cognitive agent in a humanoid robot that collaborates with a human partner to solve a spatial problem (e.g. 3D puzzle). Tasks: The following shall be performed: (i) scene understanding: detection of objects and relationships between objects, and use of these relationships to draw conclusions about new knowledge (i.e. reasoning); (ii) explore the affordances of objects, learn the consequences of performed actions and enrich the knowledge base (i.e. learning through interaction); (iii) use previous experiences to predict actions that may be useful in the present, test them and update the knowledge base (i.e. learning updates). Also writing scientific papers and communicating our research progress at conferences. Methods: Programming of a humanoid platform using ROS2 packages, using SLAM, using imitation learning algorithms to learn pick-and-place tasks, designing HRI experiments with users, evaluating data and sharing code and benchmarks in open repositories. This postdoctoral position is funded by Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP). WASP is Sweden's largest individual research program ever, a major national initiative for strategically motivated basic research, education and recruitment of teachers. PhD Student in Mathematics with Focus on Combinatorics, Group Theory, and Geometry
The Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics is announcing a fully funded PhD position in mathematics with a focus on combinatorics, group theory, and geometry. The position comprises four years of doctoral education including participation in research projects and doctoral courses. The application deadline is July 18, 2026. Project Description and Responsibilities The PhD student will conduct theoretical research at the intersection of combinatorics, group theory, and geometry. We will investigate questions about rigidity and motion in non-classical geometries using combinatorial, algebraic, and group-theoretic methods, inspired by the mathematical theory of articulated systems and constraint geometry. Possible tools include combinatorics, algebraic methods, incidence geometry, matroid theory, geometric group theory, and rigidity theory, depending on the selected PhD student's background and interests. The project's exact direction will be developed together with the selected PhD student, who will have significant freedom to influence the research within the project's overarching mathematical framework. The selected PhD student will become part of an active research environment in discrete mathematics, geometry, and group theory at Umeå University, with opportunities to interact with researchers active in combinatorics, geometry, group theory, and related areas. Postdoctoral Researcher in Neurodegenerative Diseases
We are seeking a highly motivated candidate who has recently completed, or is close to completing, a PhD and has training in statistics, data processing, bioinformatics, or a related discipline, to contribute to research on disorders of the brain. You will work with some degree of independence as a postdoctoral researcher in a group studying Parkinson's disease and other alpha-synuclein–related diseases (alpha-synucleinopathies) within the David Bäckström lab (umu.se), primarily multiple system atrophy (MSA) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). Our aim is to understand what causes these diseases, how synapses in the brain are affected in them, how these disorders lead to dementia, and—if possible—how they can be treated or prevented. Project Description The research group currently consists of 3–5 members and collaborates closely with the Departments of Neurology, Pathology, and Radiology at Norrlands University Hospital (NUS), as well as Umeå University. The group includes a principal investigator, a PhD student, a research nurse, and several affiliated researchers and students. Our research spans the spectrum from epidemiological studies to analyses of cerebrospinal fluid, genetics, and protein biochemistry related to Parkinson's disease and other alpha-synucleinopathies. A major focus is on genetic and lifestyle-related risk factors in individuals affected by these currently incurable disorders, to understand their causes and how they relate to synaptic dysfunction and impaired cell endocytosis. This research involves both clinical studies of patients and molecular biological analyses carried out locally in Umeå and through international collaborations, enabling robust findings across multiple datasets. Work Tasks We offer stimulating and meaningful work in collaboration with doctoral students and affiliated researchers across various projects. Statistical methods include regression analyses, protein quantitative trait locus (pQTL) analyses to study how genetic variation influences protein levels relevant to disease, epidemiological methods such as survival analysis, and analyses of health-registry data preceding disease onset. Administrative tasks may also be included. You will work under supervision but with significant independence. Eligibility To be eligible for a postdoctoral position, the applicant must hold a PhD degree, or a foreign degree considered equivalent to a PhD, in bioinformatics, molecular biology, statistics, medicine, or a related field. We are seeking dedicated staff for a woman living in Pajala. As a personal assistant, you will be an important support in the client's daily life. Job duties include assistance with personal hygiene, support during meals, assistance with mobility, and support with various activities. This may also include accompanying the client on visits to friends and family or other social activities. The position involves work at all hours of the day, but can be adapted to some extent. It is approximately 75%, with the possibility of more. The position will be filled by October 1st, when the client moves to the town, but training will take place elsewhere before October 1st.
