Biobank, infection control, and tissue banking are also part of the operation. We are a regional organization with operations in Lycksele, Skellefteå, and Umeå. Since 1998, the operation has been accredited according to ISO 15189. Clinical Chemistry is located at Norrlands University Hospital in Umeå and at regional hospitals in Lycksele and Skellefteå. Clinical Chemistry has approximately 140 staff members, of which approximately 100 are based in Umeå. Parts of the operation are open 24/7, and clinical chemistry in the region produces approximately 7 million analysis results per year. The chromatography laboratory analyzes more than 40,000 samples per year, primarily for diagnosing substance abuse and various disease conditions. Analysis is performed using chromatographic and mass spectrometric methods. Samples come primarily from hospitals and other healthcare facilities in the northern region.
