The Heart Center consists of units in cardiology, clinical physiology, arrhythmia unit, coronary angiography and PCI unit, thoracic surgery, and thoracic anesthesia, with approximately 400 employees. Within the Heart Center, there is a full spectrum of highly specialized care with regional responsibility for cardiovascular disease in adults across the northern region, as well as county and regional care including investigation, treatment, nursing care, rehabilitation, and preventive care, along with public health work. Here you'll find laboratory diagnostics, high-tech equipment, intensive care alongside standard ward units and outpatient clinics. Through cross-boundary collaboration, efficient care pathways, continuous improvement efforts, and above all engaged and competent staff, we can offer very high-quality care. Research and development work is very important, as is all staff members' responsibility and participation in various medical education and advanced training programs. The Cardiology department consists of three units with a mix of planned operations, intensive care, and emergency cases from the acute admission department. The ward for patients with heart failure, angina, post-myocardial infarction care, arrhythmias, etc. The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (HIA) with 5 beds, where patients with acute myocardial infarction, threatening angina, or severe cardiac arrhythmias are treated. The Investigation Unit is a weekly ward with 8 overnight beds plus day care spots where patients from the four northernmost counties are investigated and treated in connection with coronary investigation & balloon angioplasty (PCI), evaluation before valve surgery, bypass surgery, and electrophysiological procedures such as ablations, pacemaker/ICD insertion, PFO closure, and much more. RESPONSIBILITIES As an ST-resident with us, you contribute knowledge and dedication that makes people feel secure. Cardiology is a versatile specialty. We work closely with the medical center and intensive care in the acute management of patients with heart disease, staff the cardiology ward and cardiac intensive care unit, and conduct outpatient clinic work at the heart clinic. At NUS there are also a number of more subspecialized units that are staffed wholly or partially by cardiologists. The arrhythmia and PCI labs work primarily with catheter-based interventions for arrhythmias and coronary disease and heart defects respectively. As part of our university hospital mission, we investigate and treat patients with cardiomyopathies and other hereditary cardiovascular diseases, adults with congenital heart defects, severe or complicated heart failure cases, and have responsibility for introducing new treatment modalities throughout the northern health care region. Good opportunities also exist for research work within the field. Beyond the specialty-specific program, you will also participate in LEKA training as an ST-resident. A program focused on leadership, economics, communication, administration, ethics, and time for personal reflection for ST-residents within Region Västerbotten. On-call and/or standby duty is included in the position. QUALIFICATIONS You have a Swedish medical license with authorization to practice in Swedish healthcare by the time you take the position. You have an interest in specializing in Cardiology. You have good collaboration skills and appreciate working together with others and taking shared responsibility. As a person you are thorough, engaged, and enjoy finding solutions to the challenges you face. Research interest is a merit but not a requirement. Personal suitability and collaboration skills will be taken into consideration. We require good knowledge of the Swedish language at level C1. Employment type: Permanent position.
