Priest at Hospital Church
Do you want to be part of our team of five people that is ecumenical (two priests, two deacons from the Church of Sweden and a pastor from the free churches), dynamic and competent? We are now seeking a colleague as priest at the Hospital Church. The Hospital Church's coordinator Jenny describes the role: Having your position at the Hospital Church is weighty. The weightiness is also important as an image to stand firmly in what is unbearable, in worry and despair. In the darkness, we can witness that it also becomes light. It is much about being, not always doing. You cannot fully plan what a day will look like. Something happens in the encounter in the corridor. Something happens in the waiting room we sit in, a brief conversation perhaps, or it becomes more when existential questions need to be discussed. No day is like the other – that is exactly what "it" is! About the position We expect a flexible colleague with a great dose of humble curiosity who is comfortable being church in another arena – where the activity is not in focus – but where the conversation with the patient, the relative or the staff is our focus. We meet in pastoral care, support and reflection where we courageously stand firm, not to be traditional in a mission, but from a strong and long tradition at Västmanland Hospital in Västerås. The role also includes participating in and leading education and reflection sessions with care staff which creates relationships and trust to maintain. Likewise, you are expected to participate in pastorate-wide contexts, such as leading Levavidare groups and participating in joint gatherings. What do we offer? We offer structure, laughter, small premises and a large hospital. We value competence, so naturally you go through the Hospital Church's competence program in four steps if you don't already have it, of course. We offer accessibility to our target group through on-call duty according to schedule where you receive compensation according to agreement. We also care about your well-being and therefore offer work supervision. Qualifications To apply for the role, we want you to: Be ordained as a priest in the Church of Sweden Have at least three years of experience working as a priest Have a driver's license and access to your own car Good knowledge of the Swedish language in speech and writing Basic data skills in the Office package and general computer proficiency It is a merit if you have: Previous experience of or training in institutional pastoral care Pastoral care training and conversation methodology Experience in crisis and support conversations Personal qualities To thrive in the role of hospital priest, we believe you are good with other people and are outgoing, social and active in the contexts you share. We also believe that you are confident in reflecting on your faith in God. You are also calm and thoughtful even in stressful situations and can adapt to changed circumstances by planning and structuring your work with preparation time precisely to prioritize the best for the person you are sent to meet. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability. The position is a permanent position with 100% employment. Weekend and evening duty are included in the role. On-call duty is included in the role. Warmly welcome to apply! Briefly about Church of Sweden Västerås Church of Sweden Västerås has approximately 78,000 members. Around 230 great colleagues work here, all of whom are part of a resource-rich modern organization with good terms, good development opportunities and good benefits. Here you get both many colleagues and many meetings and contacts with other people through our various activities. Those of us who work here are located in 26 churches and at 23 burial grounds but also around the community. Within Church of Sweden Västerås there are many different professions. Perhaps you primarily think of our professions with high visibility – priests, deacons, church musicians and parish educators – but here there are also custodians, cemetery workers, communicators, accountants and many others who all have different backgrounds. You do not need to be a member of the Church of Sweden or be a believer to work for us, unless you work in one of the high-visibility professions. But you must share our basic values that are based on Christian faith.
