Sjömansskolan is an independent upper secondary school that trains able seafarers and watchkeeping engine personnel. Our teaching facilities are located on Långholmen, in central Stockholm. The school owns the training vessel M/S Polfors. Sjömansskolan Stockholm is seeking an educator who can teach the upper secondary subjects of Maritime Safety, Ship Technology, and Deck Operations. Your primary role will be to prepare young men and women for their career as deck personnel aboard ships. This involves both practical and theoretical instruction in fundamental maritime skills, including: watch-keeping, helmsman and lookout duties, maintenance work, mooring, anchoring, cargo handling, emergency situations, ship evacuation, safety equipment, first aid, workplace safety, navigation, and maritime regulations. The majority of the position involves leading practical instruction aboard the school's training vessel M/S Polfors, as well as instructing and mentoring students aboard other vessels used for training purposes. Students' training also includes pool exercises, firefighting drills, and other exercises in authentic ship environments. Planning and participating in such exercises alongside other staff members is part of your responsibilities. Standard administrative duties associated with teaching will be included. With increasing experience in school operations, responsibilities for areas beyond the core teaching assignment will also become relevant. We are seeking someone with at least five years of experience working in the deck department on vessels in the Swedish merchant fleet. Nautical credentials at minimum class 6 are advantageous but not required.
