Both correctional and detention activities are conducted here with a high security level as it is a Class 2 facility. Job Description Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. As a correctional officer, you are part of a team where you have daily contact with clients. The tasks at the correctional facility/detention center are varied: care work, supervision, inspections, and security work are mixed with release planning and counseling/motivational work. Work at the detention center is often routine-based and focused on care and security tasks. Clients can be detained for long periods without meeting anyone other than their lawyer and the detention center staff, which places special demands on you as a correctional officer. At the detention center and correctional facility in Skänninge, operations are conducted seven days a week, Monday through Sunday. Work hours vary within the timeframe of 07:00-19:00, which means a shift can be, for example, 07:00-16:00, 11:00-19:00, or 07:00-19:00 depending on operational needs. You work every other weekend. You will begin your employment at the workplace where you will receive an introduction over three weeks. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in the Swedish Correctional Service's basic training, which is mandatory and covers 8 weeks. You will receive salary during the entire training period. During the probationary period, ongoing assessments are conducted regarding your suitability for a permanent position. Qualifications Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be confident, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you run the operations, so you need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required.
