Biostatistician at the Medical Products Agency

At the Medical Products Agency, we make a difference together. In life and for life. We work for the health of people and animals, for a better Sweden today and in the future. Are you a statistician who wants to influence pharmaceutical work in Sweden and Europe? Then this might be something for you! Our Operations The Authorization Operations area works in several ways to ensure that appropriate medicines reach patients. Approvals of new medicines and new indications, as well as safety monitoring of approved products, are central parts. Advisory services regarding pharmaceutical development and information about medicines are other important parts. The operations area has approximately 300 employees and is divided into several units where the Efficacy and Safety units evaluate documentation regarding the efficacy and safety of medicines. The investigations and recommendations we make form the basis for decisions on whether a medicine should be approved for clinical use. We cooperate with other EU member states in investigation work and actively contribute to committees and working groups within the European Medicines Agency EMA. We also work closely with other parts of the Medical Products Agency. We now need a new colleague for the statistics group. The group is responsible for, among other things, statistical evaluation of the efficacy and safety of medicines. The statistics group also plays an important role in collaborating with other parts of the agency on biostatistical issues and monitoring of medicine use. Learn more about our mission and what it means to work at the Medical Products Agency here: https://www.lakemedelsverket.se/sv/om-lakemedelsverket/jobba-pa-lakemedelsverket Your Tasks Your main task will be statistical and methodological evaluation of clinical studies in applications for approval of primarily human but also veterinary medicines. This occurs in collaboration between national medicines authorities in Europe and the European Medicines Agency (EMA). The tasks also include methodological assessment of trial protocols for planned clinical trials for medicines and medical devices. Furthermore, consulting tasks in statistical methodology issues that arise within other operations areas of the Medical Products Agency are included. Additionally, developing new requirements and guidelines for pharmaceutical development may be part of the role. As a statistician at the Medical Products Agency, you, together with other investigators, have an important role in decisions about which medicines may be used in the EU. The work is developmental and independent but is conducted in close collaboration with other statisticians in the group and clinical and other expertise in interdisciplinary teams. Your Background You have higher education comprising at least a bachelor's degree, preferably a master's degree, in statistics/mathematical statistics or equivalent, and have good knowledge in biostatistics acquired through relevant professional experience. You have experience interpreting data from clinical studies and practical experience with statistical analysis. You have very good knowledge of Swedish and English in speech and writing. Professional experience from the pharmaceutical industry, CRO (contract research organization), and/or medicines authorities is a merit, as is a doctorate in an area that the Medical Products Agency considers relevant. Your Personal Qualities As a person, you are structured and analytically minded. You have the ability to independently solve your work tasks and bring them to completion within the given timeframe. You communicate clearly and effectively and have the ability to explain your work to others in an understandable way. You thus function well as a natural discussion partner in a team and in doing so provide support in our decision-making processes. We value scientific curiosity. The Chief Counsel may also assign tasks to the Legal Unit. Your Background We are looking for you who have: - A law degree and completed notary traineeship, or equivalent experience that we consider equivalent, - Solid documented experience of other qualified legal work, preferably from a government agency, and - Experience of a formal management role with personnel responsibility, preferably also experience of leading through others, such as being a manager of other managers. In addition to the above, we consider it a merit if you have experience in legal areas related to our agency's mission, judge training in the Court of Appeal, and experience of work within the EU or the Government Offices. We assume that you have good ability to express yourself well in speech and writing in both Swedish and English. Your Personal Qualities We are looking for a confident leader who prioritizes, delegates and leads operations towards clear goals. You create dialogue and build team spirit and participation around the unit's development. You easily build relationships and create good cooperation internally and externally, communicate with responsiveness and solution focus and contribute to a good working environment characterized by commitment and respect. It is natural for you to handle uncertainty and change in a constructive way and adapt to different situations.
