Postdoctoral Researcher in Human Interaction with Humanoid Unitree G1

Project Description and Work Tasks This project proposes the implementation of a cognitive agent in a humanoid robot that collaborates with a human partner to solve a spatial problem (e.g. 3D puzzle). Tasks: The following shall be performed: (i) scene understanding: detection of objects and relationships between objects, and use of these relationships to draw conclusions about new knowledge (i.e. reasoning); (ii) explore the affordances of objects, learn the consequences of performed actions and enrich the knowledge base (i.e. learning through interaction); (iii) use previous experiences to predict actions that may be useful in the present, test them and update the knowledge base (i.e. learning updates). Also writing scientific papers and communicating our research progress at conferences. Methods: Programming of a humanoid platform using ROS2 packages, using SLAM, using imitation learning algorithms to learn pick-and-place tasks, designing HRI experiments with users, evaluating data and sharing code and benchmarks in open repositories. This postdoctoral position is funded by Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP). Department of Forest Ecology and Management Research Education Subject: Biology Description of the Doctoral Project: Nitrogen availability is a major limitation for plant growth and carbon binding in boreal forest soils. Although proteins constitute a large proportion of the soil nitrogen pool, the processes governing their breakdown into amino acids are still poorly understood. A critical knowledge gap exists in understanding soil protein composition and properties and their role in regulating the nitrogen cycle. This doctoral project will address this challenge by characterizing the composition of proteins in soil and investigating the mechanisms governing nitrogen turnover. The doctoral candidate will primarily work in the laboratory and analyze natural soils from mesocosm and field experiments. Project Description Levodopa remains the most effective treatment for Parkinson's disease, but long-term treatment often leads to levodopa-induced dyskinesia, a significant clinical complication that limits treatment efficacy and worsens patients' quality of life. The project aims to develop and evaluate a novel gene therapy strategy that selectively dampens the pathological neuronal activity associated with dyskinesia while preserving normal brain function. The project is based on new advances in activity-dependent gene therapy, where overactive neurons are targeted through expression of a modified potassium channel that reduces neuronal excitability only in cells exhibiting abnormally high activity. Using well-established mouse models for Parkinson's disease and levodopa-induced dyskinesia, the successful candidate will investigate the treatment's effects, long-term outcomes, and underlying mechanisms through a combination of behavioral neuroscience, viral vector-based gene transfer, electrophysiology, movement analysis, and molecular methods. The project is conducted in close collaboration between research groups at Lund University and Umeå University and combines basic science research with a strong translational focus. The work has the potential to contribute to the development of a new precision medicine treatment strategy for dyskinesia in Parkinson's disease and may pave the way for future clinical application of activity-dependent gene therapies. Qualifications We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with substantial experience in experimental in vivo neurophysiology. Extensive experience with metabolic analysis, metabolic flux analysis, and chlorophyll a fluorescence analysis is required. PhD Student in Chemistry, with a focus on Inorganic Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry is seeking a PhD student in chemistry with a focus on inorganic chemistry or materials chemistry. The doctoral student's project will concern radiation-induced processes at oxide–water interfaces, investigated using advanced experimental and theoretical methods. The employment is for four years of doctoral research, which includes independent research and participation in courses at the doctoral level. The application deadline is August 15. Project Description and Work Tasks Throughout the entire nuclear fuel cycle, from fuel processing to its final disposal, interfaces between water and metal oxides arise where ionizing radiation induces radiolysis of water. The species formed, free radicals and other reactive molecules, can affect corrosion rates, the release of radionuclides, and the material properties of both reactor materials and the barrier materials included in a final repository for nuclear fuel. In a collaborative project with KTH, funded by the Swedish Research Council, we are therefore seeking a doctoral student who, within a basic research project, will investigate these radiation-induced processes at various oxide–water interfaces. The doctoral student will, among other things, combine time-resolved and multimodal X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XANES, EXAFS, etc.) at synchrotron radiation facilities such as MAX IV with theoretical molecular modeling of corresponding systems. The work will be conducted in the research group for molecular geochemistry, http://moleculargeo.chem.umu.se/holmboe/, at the Department of Chemistry, Umeå University www.umu.se/chemistry, in collaboration with researchers and doctoral students at KTH. Eligibility and Qualifications Basic eligibility is held by those who have completed a degree at advanced level, completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level, or in some other way within or outside the country acquired substantially equivalent knowledge. To meet the requirement for special eligibility for admission to education at doctoral level in chemistry, the applicant must have basic university education of at least 90 higher education credits in chemistry or other subjects assessed to be directly relevant to the current focus area. Of the 90 higher education credits, at least 15 higher education credits at advanced level within the focus area, or equivalent, must be included. The requirements for prior knowledge as stated above are also considered met by those who in another way have acquired substantially equivalent knowledge.
