Project Assistants Sought for Research Project

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked as one of the world's leading academic institutions. Here are approximately 46,000 students and 8,500 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our commitment to understand, explain, and improve our world and people's conditions. We are now seeking six project assistants for the project "Navigating Legal Problems Without Law" The Research Project Studies on access to justice indicate that people living under uncertain circumstances refrain from using the law to solve their legal problems. Instead, they "do nothing." This phenomenon means that legal problems are handled outside conventional legal channels. Despite extensive literature on this topic, there is limited research on how and why individuals, according to their own narratives, handle legal matters outside legal systems. The research project investigates the following research questions: How do people practice and understand "doing nothing" when dealing with legal problems? What can the practice of "doing nothing" teach us about the relevance of formal legislation in legal strategies among people in precarious living conditions? The research project examines these questions in a marginalized residential area in Sweden. The research project offers a new bottom-up method for investigating access to legal proceedings and conflict resolution, and challenges existing paradigms about how and why individuals in vulnerable situations handle the law. Duties The primary task is to organize and conduct at least 20 qualitative interviews relevant to the project, transcribe, translate (if necessary), and participate in the coding and analysis of these interviews. Before the interviews, project assistants will receive thorough training in interview techniques and methodology, and throughout the employment, they will be guided by the project researchers. Research assistants will participate in meetings every other week and three full-day workshops during the employment. Working languages are either Arabic, Somali, or Dari, and Swedish/English. Qualifications Requirements Very good ability to express yourself orally in Arabic, Somali, or Dari Ability to translate Arabic, Somali, or Dari into Swedish or English Strong motivation and ability to work independently under time pressure Good collaboration and communication skills Meriting Factors Lived experience from so-called vulnerable areas University or college-level education Experience with qualitative interviews Outgoing and sociable Assessment Criteria In the appointment, primary attention shall be paid to the qualifications achieved as described above. Very good ability to express yourself orally is of great importance. Good collaboration and communication skills are also an assessment criterion, as are good knowledge of the languages in speech and writing. We strive to ensure diversity. Postdoctoral Fellow for Studies of Complement in the Aging Blood Vessel

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked among the world's leading academic institutions. It has approximately 46,000 students and 8,500 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our mission to understand, explain, and improve our world and people's conditions. Workplace Description The postdoctoral position is located in the Cellular Biomechanics research group within the Vascular Physiology research environment at the Department of Experimental Medical Science (EMV), Faculty of Medicine, Lund University. EMV conducts molecular, cellular, and integrative research at the highest international level and trains tomorrow's leading researchers. The Vascular Physiology research environment comprises three research groups and approximately ten active researchers. The activities are located at BMC D12 and have access to 300 m² of laboratory and office spaces with modern infrastructure for physiology and cell biology. The environment includes two professors, two senior lecturers, as well as doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, and technical staff. The expertise encompasses transgenic models, in vivo physiology, and advanced bioinformatics, with close connections to university platforms for imaging and omics. The recruited researcher will study the significance of the complement system in age-related vascular disease. The work involves development and characterization of transgenic models that mimic age-related changes in complement activity. The postdoctoral fellow will also participate in ongoing collaborative projects, including an active collaboration with researchers at the University of Copenhagen within an initiative funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. The Department offers an inclusive research environment characterized by respect, openness, and collaboration. Professional development is encouraged through flexible working conditions that promote well-being. With a focus on equality, structured leadership, and well-developed occupational health practices, EMV provides a sustainable and stimulating environment for research and career development. Project Description Our research combines experimental approaches with analyses of human biobank material and clinical databases to understand how mechanical forces regulate gene expression. We have recently mapped transcriptomic changes in arteries from aging humans and rodents (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jbc.2025.108400; https://doi.org/10.1161/HYPERTENSIONAHA.125.26119) and now aim to clarify the underlying mechanisms by developing transgenic models and investigating their significance for vascular function and vascular disease. A central goal is to model increased expression of the complement system in aging arteries, where the postdoctoral fellow is expected to contribute to collaborative projects with the University of Copenhagen and the University of Gothenburg. The work is funded by several major Swedish research funding agencies, with specific support for the postdoctoral position from the Novo Nordisk Foundation (https://novonordiskfonden.dk/en/grant-recipient/?category=72&paginate=1&sort=DESC&search=metabolic+ageing). The position offers excellent opportunities to develop an independent and internationally competitive research profile in leading Nordic research environments. The project is part of the Novo Nordisk Foundation's initiative Metabolic Ageing – Collaborative Project Grants, which provides opportunities to participate in joint workshops, symposia, research exchanges, and other networking and dissemination activities together with affiliated research groups studying metabolic aging. Duties and Responsibilities At Lund University, a postdoctoral position should provide the opportunity for scientific and pedagogical qualification and advancement. Priority is given to opportunities for qualification within research, but also to some extent higher education pedagogical training. Teaching may also be included in the job duties. Several complement factors increase in the arterial wall with advancing age. Since complement factor H (Cfh) limits complement activation on tissue surfaces, vascular knockout of Cfh constitutes a synthetic aging model expected to promote pathological processes such as atherosclerosis and aneurysm formation. To investigate this, you will generate cell-specific and inducible knockout mice by crossing endothelial (Tie1) and smooth muscle cell-specific (Itga8) Cre lines with mice carrying floxed Cfh alleles (https://mice.jax.org/). Genotyping is performed externally, but you will be responsible for colony and tissue sample management, including breeding strategy, cage planning, and tamoxifen treatment for inducible knockout models. You will also plan and conduct experiments in close collaboration with colleagues, which on occasion may involve work outside regular working hours. Vascular phenotypes will be analyzed using histological and physiological methods, including disease models based on hypercholesterolemia and hypertension. Systemic complement activation and potential kidney effects will also be investigated. In addition to leading the work with the Cfh models, you will collaborate closely with our research partners at the University of Copenhagen and contribute to ongoing studies of mechanically regulated transcription in the arterial wall. You are expected to present your results at international conferences, within the research environment, and in the broader collaborative network. Funding from the Novo Nordisk Foundation includes an annual travel allowance for participation in symposia as well as funds for operating costs and laboratory costs (bench fee). Qualifications Requirements for employment: Doctoratе degree or equivalent foreign degree in physiology, pharmacology, molecular biology, or experimental medical science. The doctorate must be completed, or alternatively the dissertation must be submitted and approved for defense, no later than when the employment decision is made. Strong ability to develop and conduct high-quality research. Pedagogical ability. Excellent collaboration skills and ability to work independently. Very strong ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, with the ability to clearly present research results and communicate with both the research group and external collaborators and other stakeholders.
