Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked among the world's leading academic institutions. It has around 46,000 students and 8,500 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our mission to understand, explain, and improve our world and people's living conditions. Your team The Macromolecular Crystallography (MX) group is responsible for two beamlines, BioMAX and MicroMAX, as well as fragment screening at FragMAX. The group supports structural biology research aimed at understanding biology at the molecular level, with applications in drug development and biotechnology. BioMAX has been in user operation since 2017 and demonstrates world-class performance thanks to competent and engaged personnel, high-performance optics, experimental setup instrumentation, control systems, and computational resources. MicroMAX focuses on serial crystallography, time-resolved experiments, and studies of protein dynamics. MicroMAX will also offer high-throughput crystallography capabilities. MicroMAX has recently begun user operation and is in a phase where the exciting new possibilities offered by the first fourth-generation storage ring and advanced beamline equipment are being realized. The international and interdisciplinary MX group consists of approximately 15 people. Would you like to work at one of the world's most powerful light sources? MAX IV is seeking a beamline scientist with solid knowledge and experience of sample delivery systems for serial crystallography, who can help establish MicroMAX as a world-class facility for studying protein dynamics. You will lead development projects, such as those involving sample delivery systems, contribute to the continuous development of the beamline, and assist users in best utilizing the opportunities offered. You will be part of the team developing and operating MicroMAX and work in a group of friendly, curious, and competent colleagues from diverse backgrounds. Your main responsibilities will be Developing the user program for serial crystallography at MicroMAX together with the MicroMAX team and MX group Leading development projects Participating in internal research projects and collaborative research Providing support to users To succeed in this role, you need the following qualifications A PhD or equivalent in structural biology, physics, chemistry, or another field relevant to beamline science Knowledge of macromolecular crystallography Knowledge and experience in serial crystallography and time-resolved methods with emphasis on sample handling Work experience from synchrotron or XFEL facilities Ability to collaborate and work in teams, as well as the ability to work independently Good communication skills and excellent English proficiency, both spoken and written The following characteristics are considered merits Knowledge and experience in the development of scientific instrumentation Solid knowledge of data analysis, data processing, and programming As a person, you are a good team player, independent, results-oriented, organized, and service-minded.
