The Current Doctoral Project At the Department of Pedagogy and Special Education, University of Gothenburg, national tests in social studies (grade 9) and English are being developed, as well as assessment support in modern languages. The current doctoral position is particularly linked to the work with national tests in social studies. The work with national tests in social studies is in an expansive and dynamic phase where scientific grounding is particularly important. The doctoral student will have the opportunity to be included in the entire test development process—from task design, piloting and collaboration with teachers, to analysis and presentation of test data and collaboration with other social science subjects and the Swedish National Agency for Education (Skolverket). This means that the current doctoral project may include substantive and subject-related aspects as well as analytical aspects. We are looking for you who are interested in a paid part-time job and at the same time want to make a concrete social impact. The position is an hourly employment for afternoons/evenings and involves being a homework tutor after school hours at one of our partner schools. You work in a team of three tutors where everyone is a university or college student. You will receive training in and work according to our structured approach. Each homework tutoring group consists of 15 students, and together with your colleagues, you are responsible for planning, implementing, and following up on the work. As a homework tutor, you can either work as a regular tutor or as a substitute. As a regular tutor, you work 6 hours per week distributed over two scheduled afternoons/evenings (opportunities for extra substitute shifts are available). As a substitute, you work when regular tutors are on leave or sick. The work is carried out after school hours in the school's facilities. We are looking for someone who: - Is a university or college student - Has pedagogical skills and can communicate and build relationships with children and young people. - Is solution-oriented, takes initiative, and can work according to our structured approach and method. - Has broad foundational subject knowledge and good study techniques. - Shares the Foundation Läxhjälpen's values and vision of a society where all children grow up with the ability to succeed in school and shape their own future. Since the job involves working with children, we place great emphasis on personal suitability. Providing a criminal record clearance from the police is a legal requirement to work with children and young people. Differences between schools, where you live, where you come from, and what your parents do increasingly determine how likely you are to succeed in school. The Foundation Läxhjälpen is a non-profit foundation that works where it is needed most. Läxhjälpen is free for students, and the tutors' wages are financed through support from the business sector and public sector. Läxhjälpen is a concrete initiative that addresses one of Sweden's greatest challenges today - increasingly more young people are not succeeding in school and risk being excluded from society. Carefully selected, paid university and college students help young people with their studies two evenings a week and are also positive role models and mentors. Since our start in 2007, we have developed a structured approach and a clear goal - grades should improve and students should advance to upper secondary school.
