Postdoctoral Researcher in Microstructure-Informed Modeling of Fracture Mechanics
Job Responsibilities The position involves both experimental and numerical studies in fracture mechanics. The experimental work focuses on developing new specimen geometries to study defect evolution, especially void formation, under a broad spectrum of stress states, using advanced X-ray computed tomography (CT) in both interrupted and in situ tests. Initial studies will be conducted using the institution's own micro-CT equipment and will later be expanded to synchrotron experiments in collaboration with national and international partners. The experimental results will then be used to develop improved models for damage evolution in continuum-based nonlocal material models, adapted for implementation in finite element models for fracture analysis. These models will be applied to study the ductile-to-brittle transition in HSLA steel. Qualifications Requirements Completed doctoral degree or foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a doctoral degree. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled by the time the employment decision is made. Beyond your scientific skills and pedagogical ability, a relevant doctoral dissertation is desirable, international experience and proficiency in English are necessary as they are required in daily work. We seek a highly motivated and collaborative postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in experimental and computational fracture mechanics.
