Postdoctoral Researcher in Freshwater Ecology and Climate Change
Department of Forest Ecology and Management Project Description: Climate change is increasing the frequency and intensity of droughts, floods, heat waves, and storms. Small streams and their surrounding riparian zones are particularly vulnerable to these changes, especially in managed forests where streams are already impacted by forestry. Buffer zones along streams represent the primary forestry tool for reducing the impact of forest management on aquatic environments, but many buffer zones are inadequately designed to maintain important ecological functions, especially in a changing climate. The project addresses three interconnected research questions: 1) How climate-driven extreme events affect streams and riparian zones in managed forests. 2) Which characteristics of riparian zones best increase resilience and recovery capacity against such extreme events. 3) How scientific knowledge about riparian zones is translated into practical guidelines and policy instruments for climate adaptation in forestry. This is a time-limited knowledge synthesis project that integrates scientific and applied knowledge on climate-adapted management of riparian zones, with a focus on boreal and hemiboreal forest ecosystems. The project will compile and evaluate scientific literature, forestry guidelines, policy documents, and/or available data to produce scientific publications and other project outputs. About the Position The postdoctoral researcher will work within the CLIMRIP project (Climate-adapted riparian buffer management: a synthesis of boreal ecosystems and implications for practice), funded by Formas and led by principal investigator Associate Professor Lenka Kuglerová. The project team is interdisciplinary and includes expertise in hydrology, ecology, limnology, microclimate, and social science. The project also has support from the SLU Library. The postdoctoral researcher will also be part of the larger scientific network around the Krycklan Catchment Study. The postdoctoral researcher's primary task is to compile and synthesize knowledge related to the project's three main research questions. Work responsibilities include: Planning and conducting systematic literature reviews, rapid evidence reviews, meta-analyses, and/or evidence mapping of scientific literature on the effects of climate change on boreal streams and riparian zones, as well as on the design of climate-adapted riparian zones, Compiling and analyzing forestry guidelines and policy documents to evaluate how scientific knowledge about riparian zones is translated into practical forest management and policy, Leading the work of writing and publishing scientific articles based on the synthesis work, as well as contributing to other project deliverables, such as reports, Collaborating with the project team to integrate results from different disciplines and contribute to practical recommendations for climate-adapted forestry, Presenting project results at project meetings and scientific conferences. Your Background We seek an engaged and motivated postdoctoral researcher with a strong natural science background, particularly in freshwater ecology or related fields. The applicant should hold a PhD in natural science, for example in ecology, physical geography, forest science, or equivalent, preferably with a focus on freshwater ecology, limnology, or similar subject areas. We seek a candidate with demonstrated experience leading scientific publication processes and who can demonstrate a strong ability to publish scientific articles in English. We are looking for someone who wants to work in home care and help create security, inclusion, and quality of life for our elderly. As a home care assistant in North Tierp, you play a key role in providing care and support to our clients in their own homes. Thanks to your work, clients can maintain their living habits and uphold a high quality of life in their home environment. This may include personal care, meal assistance, cleaning, shopping, and medication administration according to delegation from the responsible nurse. You are responsible for establishing implementation plans for the clients you have a primary care contact with, and for ensuring that care services are delivered as needed, such as: personal care, social activities, home support, medical services under delegation, and continuously evaluating and reporting on the services provided. Documentation using digital tools is also part of daily work. You will be part of a cohesive team where we collaborate closely with colleagues and with nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and the unit manager. You will work on a day/evening schedule rotating over 6 weeks with alternating weekends; you will use a car and bicycle as transportation. A B-class driver's license is desirable but not required. A certificate from the police criminal records register is a requirement. It is of utmost importance that clients within healthcare and social services can feel safe in the care provided by the municipality. Therefore, you must present a certificate from the criminal records register before a job offer is made. The processing time for a certificate is approximately three weeks, and you order it yourself via the police website. It would be helpful to order the certificate at the same time you submit your application so that you have everything in place if you move forward in the recruitment process. If you already have a certificate, it must not be older than one year. The form used for this is called "Verification of Personal Information in the Criminal Records Register (442.3)" QUALIFICATIONS Professional certification as a home care assistant Professional certificate from the National Board of Health and Welfare or a letter from your current/previous employer regarding permanent employment as a home care assistant. Language Good proficiency in Swedish in speech, writing, and reading comprehension. Good computer skills/computer experience Bicycle competence Criminal Records Register You must be able to provide a valid criminal records certificate from the Police for work in activities other than schools or preschools. B-class Driver's License Hold a B-class driver's license and have driving experience. You have the ability to work with other people; to listen, show empathy, and respect.
