The Disability Care Services in Umeå Municipality aims to be a resource that releases and strengthens people's ability to live an independent life through proximity and collaboration. Short-term stays are one of the services under the LSS (Act on Support and Services for Persons with Certain Disabilities) designed to provide children/youth with a change of environment and recreation as well as to relieve families. The activity aims to support individuals with disabilities and strengthen their ability to live an independent life. This is accomplished by offering a change of environment and opportunities for leisure activities, recreation, and social community in a safe and home-like setting. Ostvägen is a short-term residence for children with intellectual disabilities. The target group encompasses a broad spectrum of neuropsychiatric, mental, and physical disabilities. The residence is located in a rental building with capacity for four children per day in the age range 6-14 years. During their stay, children have their own bedroom and access to shared spaces.
