The Department of Biological Education (IBG) at Uppsala University coordinates and administers all undergraduate education within the biological sector. Job Responsibilities In your role as course administrator, you will provide course administrative support and service to faculty and students at both undergraduate and advanced levels. The work is conducted within a team where course administrators collaborate closely with study directors, faculty, and other administrative staff. You will also have contact with external offices such as administration and the faculty, and there are opportunities to participate in several administrative networks within Uppsala University. Course administrative support includes administration of course schedules, room bookings, examinations, course registration, and recording of study results. The administrative systems you will work with are primarily TimeEdit, Ladok, Inspera, Studium, and NyA. Additional duties may be assigned within the scope of employment. Qualifications Relevant university education, vocational training in administration, or equivalent competence that the employer deems comparable. Experience in administrative work. Good computer skills and knowledge of the Office suite. Strong ability to express yourself in Swedish and English, both verbally and in writing. Great weight will be placed on personal suitability. Responsibilities Turbulent flows at the air–sea–ice interface in the marginal ice zone (MIZ)—the transition zone between open water and pack ice—are critical for polar weather, ecosystems, and climate on both local and global scales. The presence of sea ice floes, varying in size from centimeters to hundreds of kilometers, creates an exceptionally heterogeneous surface with varying roughness and temperature profiles. These characteristics significantly affect momentum and heat fluxes across the air–sea–ice interface and other processes. Despite this importance, our understanding of turbulent flows at the interface in the MIZ remains fragmented and poorly represented in current weather and climate models. The postdoctoral project will focus on: implementing new turbulent parameterizations for the marginal ice zone (MIZ) in Earth system models (regional or global), and assessing the impact of MIZ processes on polar extreme cyclones and their broader consequences for polar climate. Requirements PhD in atmospheric or ocean science, or a related field, or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a PhD in the above subject. The degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. Preferably, the degree should have been completed no more than three years before the application deadline. If there are special circumstances, the degree may have been completed earlier. Special circumstances include leave due to illness, parental leave, positions of trust within trade union organizations, etc. Documented experience with numerical modeling, preferably with tools such as WRF, EC-Earth, or sea ice models. Strong competence in scientific programming and computational modeling. Work Tasks Research tasks include application of long short-term memory models, transformer models, and potentially other deep learning tools and techniques to improve and characterize flow predictions in watercourses throughout Sweden. Specific research tasks that can be expected include preprocessing of large datasets for analysis, reading and summarizing relevant scientific literature, writing and manipulating code in Python, managing computationally intensive computational processes, preparing and interpreting visualizations of code output, and quantifying uncertainty associated with predictions. The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focused on, among other areas, cancer, genetic and autoimmune diseases. Lignin, a renewable by-product from the pulp and paper industry, is converted into highly porous biochar that concentrates PFAS from contaminated water. Enzyme immobilization on the biochar surface extends enzyme lifespan, improves substrate accessibility, and creates a synergistic system where adsorption brings PFAS into close contact with the enzyme's active sites. The research proceeds through three coordinated work packages: (WP1) screening of extracellular enzymes for PFAS transformation using real contaminated groundwater; (WP2) development and validation of biochar-enzyme composites; and (WP3) pilot-scale testing in lysimeter systems with contaminated water and soil from former fire training sites. The PhD student will work under the main supervision of Assistant Professor Tetyana Budnyak and co-supervision of Professor Fritjof Fagerlund. The project is funded by a Tuffo grant, with co-financing from Uppsala University. The research subject for your doctoral studies is environmental analysis. The project will involve close collaboration with industry partners and other relevant actors, as well as with academic research groups in Sweden and internationally, which gives the PhD student the opportunity to work in a broad, interdisciplinary, and collaboration-oriented research environment. Duties The main task of a PhD student is to pursue doctoral research training, which includes both participation in research projects and research training courses. The instrument performs quantitative chemical analyses at a micrometer scale and imaging of minerals or materials down to a nanometer scale. Quantitative analyses of elements are possible in the range from beryllium to uranium. Job Responsibilities The research assistant will be responsible for operation and maintenance of the FE-EPMA and general management of the laboratory. In addition to routine operation and customer service, responsibilities will also include development and implementation of new micro-analytical methods such as in-situ chemical dating, trace element-based geothermobarometry, and basic analysis of volatile elements (depending on demand). Responsibilities will also include assisting students using the EMPA and training related to the role focus. Qualification Requirements Master's degree in mineralogy and/or petrology. Experience with Field Emission Electron MicroProbe and conventional electron microprobe is required. The applicant should also have a background in other electron-based micro-beam techniques such as SEM-EDS-EBSD and parallel techniques: Raman spectroscopy and practical understanding of mass spectrometry methods (e.g. LA-ICP-MS) applied to rock-forming minerals. Investigator with Focus on Technology-Facilitated Violence at the National Centre for Knowledge on Men's Violence Against Women The National Centre for Knowledge on Men's Violence Against Women (NCK) at Uppsala University and Akademiska Hospital has a government mandate to increase national knowledge about men's violence against women, honor-related violence and oppression, and violence in same-sex relationships. NCK is divided into a university division focused on research, education and information, and a clinical division with practice-oriented activities. The center is led by a director and is part of the Department of Women's and Children's Health (KBH). NCK strategically combines national work with research, education, communication and direct support to victims of violence. We operate four national support hotlines and chat services, as well as the Women's Peace Reception at Akademiska Hospital. Responsibilities We are seeking a motivated and ambitious PhD student for theoretical studies of ion transport in solid battery materials. The project aims to deepen the fundamental understanding of the mechanisms governing ion transport in solid polymer electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries. The research will focus on developing new and computationally efficient multiscale modeling strategies, enabling systematic studies of ion conductivity in complex battery materials at large scales. Model-generated data will be used to identify important relationships between material structure and ion conductivity using advanced data analysis and machine learning methods. The expected scientific outcome is to provide guidelines for identifying and optimizing promising electrolyte materials and to contribute to the development of future battery technologies. The project is financed by the Swedish Research Council (VR) and will be conducted within the Structural Chemistry research program at Uppsala University, which encompasses both the Materials Computational Chemistry research environment and the Ångström Advanced Battery Centre (ÅABC). The PhD student will be an active part of both environments. The PhD student's main responsibilities are to conduct research studies, which include active participation in research projects and doctoral courses. Tasks may also include teaching and other commitments (maximum 20%). There may be both shorter and longer business trips. Duties The project's focus is to model various types of high-entropy electrolytes at the molecular level for application in both lithium and sodium batteries. The goal is to understand how different design and material choices correlate with structure, dynamics, and performance. A special focus is on solvent-free electrolytes based on molten salts. The methods are primarily molecular dynamics simulations and smaller DFT calculations, but the software COSMO-RS may also be used. The project combines computational chemistry, molecular modeling, and artificial intelligence. A central part of the work is to develop and apply modern AI and machine learning methods to explore, understand, and optimize high-entropy electrolytes. The postdoctoral researcher will be part of Prof. Patrik Johansson's new research group at Uppsala University, part of the research environment Ångström Advanced Battery Centre (ÅABC). This fundamental yet application-inspired research project is funded by the Swedish Research Council through a Research Council Professor Grant for "Next Generation Batteries." The main duties for a postdoctoral researcher are to conduct research. These may also include teaching, up to 20% of working time, as well as supervision of and collaboration with doctoral students and thesis workers. Qualifications PhD in chemistry, physics, or materials science, or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent. The degree must be completed by the time of the employment decision. Normally the degree should have been completed within the last three years, counted from the final application deadline. However, in special circumstances the degree may have been completed earlier.
