The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focused on, among other areas, cancer, genetic and autoimmune diseases. One of the guiding principles at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby promote closer collaboration between medical research and healthcare. Research is conducted within six research programs: cancer precision medicine, cancer immunotherapy, genomics and neurobiology, molecular tools and functional genomics, neuro-oncology and neurodegeneration, and vascular biology. Parts of the activities are also integrated with the departments of oncology, clinical genetics, clinical immunology, clinical pathology, and hospital physics at Uppsala University Hospital. The department has teaching responsibilities in several program educations, individual courses, and international master's programs within the medical faculty. The department has an annual budget of approximately 550 million kronor, of which about two-thirds come from external research grants. The number of employees is approximately 400, of which about 100 are doctoral students, and there are over 850 people in total in the workforce. Read more about the department's activities at: www.uu.se/medarbetare/institution/immunologi-genetik-och-patologi Responsibilities We are seeking a highly motivated and talented postdoctoral researcher who wants to join our team to drive innovative research in the development of next-generation CAR-T cell therapies. In this role you will: - Design, modify, and functionally validate new CAR-T cell constructs. - Use large-scale CRISPR screening platforms to identify genetic regulators of T cell persistence, tumor infiltration, and resistance mechanisms. - Perform complex in vitro analyses (e.g., cytotoxicity assays, cytokine profiling, and flow cytometry) as well as preclinical in vivo evaluations. - Collaborate closely with internal and external academic partners, clinical teams, and industry partners. - Analyze high-dimensional data and compile and write scientific manuscripts for publication in high-ranking journals. Qualifications - Ph.D. in immunology, cancer biology, biotechnology, molecular biology, or another relevant field, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a Ph.D. in the same. The degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. Ideally, the degree should have been obtained no more than three years ago. When calculating the three-year period, the deadline for applications is the starting point. If there are special circumstances, such a degree may have been obtained earlier. Special circumstances include leave due to illness, parental leave, positions of trust within trade union organizations, etc. - Documented practical experience in designing, producing, and validating CAR-T cells. - Demonstrated technical expertise in designing, conducting, and analyzing CRISPR screening (e.g., pooled or arrayed screening). - Strong background in molecular cloning, production of viral vectors (lentivirus/retrovirus), and culturing of primary human T cells. - High competence in advanced flow cytometry (multi-color panels, sorting) and standardized immunological assays. - Experience with animal work, including conducting preclinical in vivo experiments, is advantageous. Applicants with FELASA certification will be given preference. - Documented experience in analyzing omics data and competence in R programming. - A strong scientific record with publications as first author in peer-reviewed journals. - Excellent knowledge of English, both spoken and written, and good collaboration skills.
