Duties The doctoral project will focus on uncertainty quantification in modeling flow and transport of dissolved substances in fractured rock. The work will include numerical modeling of flow and transport, analysis of uncertainties in model predictions, and development of effective methods to assess their significance for the safety of geological repositories. The methods will be demonstrated under conditions representative of a Swedish repository site, with the goal of improving the robustness and transparency of long-term safety analyses for disposal of radioactive waste. Qualification Requirements Eligible for education at the research level is the person who has a master's degree (second cycle) in hydrogeology, hydrology, rock mechanics, geophysics, geotechnics, water engineering, applied mathematics, physics, computer science, or another relevant field, has completed at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level including an independent work of at least 15 higher education credits, or in some other way has acquired essentially equivalent knowledge. In addition to the above eligibility requirements, you must have a solid foundation in mathematics and physics as well as experience in numerical modeling or scientific programming. Desirable/Meriting Qualifications Knowledge of flow and transport in soil and rock, fractured media, uncertainty quantification, statistical methods, or machine learning is meriting. Regulations for doctoral candidates are found in the Higher Education Ordinance 5 chapter §§ 1-7 and in the university's rules and guidelines. About the Position The position is temporary according to the Higher Education Ordinance 5 chapter 7 §. The position is 100%. Start date February 1, 2027 or by agreement. Place of work: Uppsala.
