We are seeking a motivated researcher to develop and apply a mass spectrometric technique (proton transfer mass spectrometry, PTr-MS) for detection of individual oxygenated organic radicals in air, within the prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Advanced project EPHEMERAL. The work will encompass characterization and optimization of a state-of-the-art Time-of-flight mass spectrometer (PTr-MS) and use of other instruments to detect these radicals in laboratory and in air. Postdoctoral Researcher in Microstructure-Informed Modeling of Fracture Mechanics
Job Responsibilities The position involves both experimental and numerical studies in fracture mechanics. The experimental work focuses on developing new specimen geometries to study defect evolution, especially void formation, under a broad spectrum of stress states, using advanced X-ray computed tomography (CT) in both interrupted and in situ tests. Initial studies will be conducted using the institution's own micro-CT equipment and will later be expanded to synchrotron experiments in collaboration with national and international partners. The experimental results will then be used to develop improved models for damage evolution in continuum-based nonlocal material models, adapted for implementation in finite element models for fracture analysis. These models will be applied to study the ductile-to-brittle transition in HSLA steel.
