About the Job The development of bio-based adhesives is currently limited by a lack of predictive understanding of how formulation chemistry affects material properties and performance. This project aims to address this challenge by establishing a data-driven framework for the rational development of high-performance bio-based adhesives. As a postdoctoral researcher, you will work on integrating experimental formulation, molecular-level characterization, and machine learning to develop predictive models that link chemical descriptors to adhesive properties. The work includes developing a structured library of formulations, systematically mapping key performance indicators, and implementing data-driven optimization strategies to identify high-performance systems. Machine learning methods will be used to identify relationships between structure and properties and to guide the development of new formulations. The project combines experimental and computational approaches and includes validation of selected formulations on industrially relevant substrates. Postdoctoral Researcher in Uncertainty Quantification of Nuclear Data for Gen IV Reactor Systems
Uppsala University is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our research group in applied nuclear physics. The position is linked to the research program MÅSTE, Multidisciplinary Commitments for Sweden's Gen IV Technology and Expertise, which addresses key scientific and technical challenges for future Gen IV reactor systems. Duties As a postdoctoral researcher, you will contribute to the development and application of methods for uncertainty quantification of nuclear data in Gen IV reactor systems. Your main duties will be to: - Conduct research on uncertainty quantification of nuclear data for Gen IV reactor applications. - Generate and use nuclear data files based on nuclear data uncertainties from evaluated nuclear data libraries. - Process nuclear data into forms suitable for reactor physics calculations and neutron noise calculations. - Develop and apply methods for uncertainty propagation to neutron noise-based core monitoring methods. - Develop, train, and validate surrogate models for neutron noise calculation codes using machine learning. - Quantify uncertainties in source terms for spent nuclear fuel, including decay heat and inventories of selected nuclides relevant to reactivity, safeguards, safety analysis, spent fuel reprocessing, and fuel manufacturing. - Lead and contribute to scientific publications, conference presentations, and dissemination of research results. - Collaborate with national and international partners within the research program. Qualifications A doctoral degree in nuclear engineering, reactor physics, nuclear physics, computational physics, applied mathematics, computer science, or a related field, or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a doctoral degree in one of these areas. The degree must be completed by the time of the employment decision. For postdoctoral employment, the primary target groups are individuals who have completed their doctoral degree no more than three years before the application deadline. Yant Lab develops computational and genomic methods to understand evolution, adaptation, genome dynamics, and whole-genome duplication across diverse plant systems (see https://www.yantlab.net/). The project is funded by Formas and aims to contribute to the restoration of European ash (Fraxinus excelsior), which is threatened by ash dieback disease. The successful candidate will contribute to developing the first Swedish-focused European ash pangenome by integrating long-read genome assemblies with population-based whole-genome sequencing to understand the genetic basis for disease resistance and local adaptation across Europe. The project combines large-scale population genomics, graph-based pangenomics, structural variant identification, genome-wide association studies (GWAS), and evolutionary genomics using modern long-read sequencing and advanced computational genomic methods. At the Department of Systems and Control, we develop both theory and concrete tools for designing systems that learn, reason, and act in the real world based on a seamless combination of data, mathematical models, and algorithms. Our research integrates expertise from machine learning, optimization, control theory, and applied mathematics, spanning diverse application areas such as medicine, energy systems, biomedical systems, neuroscience, and security. Responsibilities This project focuses on developing, analyzing, and applying new methods in reinforcement learning and model predictive control (MPC), both stochastic and deterministic formulations. In these situations, expected costs/rewards do not capture the behavior of individual rollouts, requiring new designs. About the Division The Division of Biomedical Engineering is part of the Department of Materials Science at the Ångström Laboratory. We conduct fundamental research in the development and evaluation of new materials in interaction with biological systems to understand the underlying principles. For us, it is equally important to study the effects of materials on biological processes as it is to study the effects of biological processes on materials. This project aims to expand the acoustic technology portfolio within the group to include acoustic holography, and we are now seeking a postdoctoral researcher driven by scientific curiosity and a desire to develop acoustofluidic systems for modeling blood vessels. Responsibilities The tasks within this interdisciplinary research project include conducting high-quality research in all aspects of the project, from design and fabrication of microfluidic systems with integrated acoustics to evaluation and publication of scientific results. The current postdoctoral researcher will use "Spin-Echo Modulated Small-Angle Neutron Scattering" (SEMSANS) to extend available length scales beyond conventional small-angle scattering (SANS) and to obtain spatially resolved scattering signals using dark-field imaging. SEMSANS uses polarized neutrons to encode small scattering angles without the need for a well-collimated neutron beam, measures autocorrelation functions over mesoscopic length scales, and investigates structural properties ranging from the micrometer to the nanometer range. The method is based on modulation of the neutron beam's polarization using a pair of magnetic Wollaston prisms – superconducting triangular field regions – placed upstream of the sample. The postdoctoral researcher will work on the design and implementation of the Wollaston prisms and a "spin exchange optically pumped" (SEOP) neutron spin analyzer. Both will be developed at a test instrument at ISIS. Once the new features are implemented, they will be utilized on the Larmor and IMAT instruments at ISIS. When ESS becomes available with its new long neutron pulses, the method will be integrated and used on the imaging instrument ODIN and the SANS instrument SKADI, both at ESS. This will enable unique studies of vortex lattices in intermediate mixed superconductors, characterization of vesicles in model cell systems, and resolution of hierarchical cellulose microstructures in collaboration with project partners.
