The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focused on cancer, genetic and autoimmune diseases, among others. A guiding principle at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby promote closer collaboration between medical research and healthcare. Research is conducted within six research programs: cancer precision medicine, cancer immunotherapy, genomics and neurobiology, molecular tools and functional genomics, neuro-oncology and neurodegeneration, and vascular biology. The department has teaching responsibilities in several degree programs, standalone courses, and international master's programs within the Medical Faculty. The department has an annual budget of approximately 550 million SEK, of which about two-thirds comes from external research grants. The number of employees is approximately 400, of which approximately 100 are doctoral students, and there are over 850 people active in the workforce. Job Responsibilities
- Develop new computational, machine learning, and statistical analysis methods to integrate and analyze large-scale, spatially resolved RNA sequencing and genotype data using current state-of-the-art technology.
- Develop data analysis strategies, write algorithms, and distribute computational tools for exploration of very large datasets.
- Develop a community resource providing access to collected data.
- Work closely with experimental colleagues and core facilities to understand the nature of generated data.
- Actively participate in manuscript preparation for publication and present at scientific conferences.
- Assist with mentoring colleagues and students.
- Share expertise and provide training and guidance to group members as needed.
Qualifications
- A PhD in computational biology, statistics, applied mathematics, computer science, or a related discipline is required, or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a PhD in the same field. The degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. Ideally, the degree should have been completed no more than three years ago. In calculating the three-year period, the basis is the final application deadline. If there are special circumstances, such a degree may have been obtained earlier. Special circumstances include leave due to illness, parental leave, positions of trust within trade unions, etc.
- Previous experience with Bayesian inference, graphical models, multivariate models, and image analysis is preferred, but exceptionally creative and driven researchers with interest and adaptability will be seriously considered.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, data documentation, and presentation ability are required.
- Experience writing scientific articles for publication is required.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously is required.
- Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills, as well as a willingness to work in a fast-paced team environment are required.

About the Position
The employment is time-limited for 2 years according to central collective agreement with the possibility of 1 year extension. The position is full-time. Start date by agreement. Work location: Uppsala
