Brief project description: Sex ratios and the evolution of sex chromosomes Sex chromosomes are of fundamental importance in biology, but our understanding of their evolution remains limited. Genetic conflicts, such as meiotic drive affecting sex ratios, have long been linked to the rapid evolution of sex chromosomes and may thus contribute to divergence and speciation. This project studies a plant genus, willows (Salix), which are dioecious. Within Salix, a biased sex ratio favoring females is common and high turnover of sex chromosomes has been described.
