Summer Substitute Firefighter 2027 with Räddningstjänsten Mälardalen

Description About the Role Working as a firefighter with us means becoming an important part of our Rescue Department and joining a dedicated team that works every day to create safety and security for all our residents. With us, you can expect meaningful and varied work days. You will participate in life-saving operations, training, and regular exercises, while strengthening our operational capabilities. Our fantastic location in Sweden, in the heart of Mälardalen, approximately one hour by car from Stockholm, Uppsala, and Örebro, makes it easy to travel to and live here. We are proud to have Sweden's newest and most modern training facility – Station and Training Ground Eriksberg. Here, part-time and full-time firefighters can train and practice realistic scenarios, such as traffic and train accidents, water diving, rescue in rubble, and smoke diving in multi-family buildings. As a firefighter, this gives you both confidence and competence to handle complex situations when it really matters. Responsibilities Conduct operational rescue operations at fires, accidents, and other emergencies during the summer. Perform ongoing maintenance of equipment and vehicles to ensure everything works when needed most. Participate in regular exercises to strengthen your own competence and develop our collective ability to act effectively in critical situations. Meet community residents and prevent accidents. Qualifications We are looking for someone who has: SMO training with at least 2 semesters completed by summer 2027. Alternatively, GRIB1 and 2 with documented 56 hours of smoke diving training with full-time experience as a firefighter. Category B driving license Good Swedish in speech and writing, as well as good computer skills The ability to collaborate and see teamwork as an important part of the work A willingness to be involved in RTMD's mission and make a difference Passed Gold Button certification, attach certificate to application Passed the treadmill test at 4.5 km/h, attach certificate to application Ongoing or completed SMO training is meritorious. Tests In accordance with new guidelines for a sustainable professional profile, a decision made within RRÖS (Rescue Region Eastern Svealand), we will use the same tests throughout the entire rescue region. The tests consist of: Height test Claustrophobia test in the form of smoke diving exercise Swimming tests Physical fitness tests Grip strength Single-arm rowing Cardiovascular fitness test (the pyramid) Interview and possibly logic test Timeline Deadline for applications: 2026-10-18 Admission tests: week 45 Introductory training: spring 2027 ABOUT US Räddningstjänsten Mälardalen is a municipal federation where the municipalities of Arboga, Hallstahammar, Kungsör, Köping, Surahammar, and Västerås together are responsible for rescue services and preventive work. Our mission is to create safety for people who live, work, and stay in the region by preventing accidents, managing rescue operations, and strengthening society's preparedness. We have approximately 280 employees working in several different professions – from firefighters and incident commanders to fire engineers, fire inspectors, and specialists. Through knowledge, collaboration, and commitment, we reduce risks and handle events when they occur. Our operational area encompasses a varied and complex risk landscape that includes ports and oil terminals, airport, major industries, major highways and national roads, tall buildings, underground facilities, and culturally historic buildings.
