Researcher in Electronics & Electromagnetics
Ytsab Defence AB is seeking a highly motivated Researcher with a strong background in electromagnetism, power electronics, and experimental laboratory work. Joining our cutting-edge defence R&D team, you will bridge the gap between theoretical physics and advanced engineering. In this role, you will lead the physical modeling, simulation, and experimental validation of next-generation electromagnetic launch systems. You will be responsible for defining the mathematical frameworks of electromagnetic acceleration, optimizing pulsed-power efficiency, managing extreme thermal/mechanical stresses, and building physical prototypes to validate your models. If you thrive on solving complex multi-physics challenges and want to shape the future of high-velocity propulsion technology, this is your next role. Key Responsibilities Theoretical & Multi-Physics Modeling: Develop fundamental mathematical frameworks combining electromagnetic, thermal, and material physics to describe transient system behaviors and time-varying magnetic forces. Simulation: Implement and utilize multi-physics software to simulate large parameter spaces and refine magnetic field dynamics. Control & Electrical Subsystems: Define boundary conditions, switching requirements, pulse shapes, and power regulation dependencies for electrical and control subsystems. Prototyping & Testing: Design, build, and operate experimental laboratory test setups to evaluate acceleration efficiency and discharge dynamics. Reporting & Collaboration: Document test results, prepare technical reports for EU-funded projects, and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams of engineers and scientists. Requirements Education: Master's degree or PhD in Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field. Pulsed Power & Electromagnetic Systems: Strong foundation in electromagnetic acceleration physics and transient magnetic forces, with expertise in pulsed power architectures, high-energy discharge circuits, high-current switching, high-power electronics or electromagnetic propulsion mechanisms. Simulation: Experience with multi-physics simulation software (e.g., COMSOL, ANSYS Maxwell, and/or Altair Flux). Hands-on Testing: Experience setting up laboratory diagnostics, high-speed data acquisition systems, and working safely with high-voltage hardware. Communication & Research: Experience in scientific research and technical report writing, with excellent written and verbal English communication skills (Swedish is a plus). Bonus Qualifications Familiarity with managing thermal dissipation and mechanical stress in high-energy electrical systems. Experience in leading technical projects and managing multidisciplinary project deliverables. Experience in EU research projects or similar collaborative environments, with strong skills for working alongside external manufacturing and project partners. What We Offer A unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies. A flexible and collaborative work environment. Possibility to participate in international R&D consortia. Competitive salary and benefits.
