The Medical Acute Care Department (MAVA) is part of Internal Medicine in Gävle and has 20 patient beds. We care for acutely ill patients with medical conditions. The main diagnoses on the department are liver cirrhosis, liver failure, heart problems/arrhythmias, intoxication and addiction, diabetes, electrolyte disturbances, as well as patients with other medical conditions such as infections, COPD or general decline. The Surgical Department in Gävle consists of three care units, a surgical outpatient clinic, and an endoscopy clinic. The Intermediate Care Unit (IMA) is a relatively new care unit, which means we are continuously developing the department together. It is a 24/7 operation, and patients come to us from throughout the hospital. Patients cared for at IMA require a higher level of care than a regular ward, but not as advanced as intensive care. The average length of stay is approximately 1-2 days. At IMA, we have five care beds divided between two care teams. The Intermediate Care Unit (IMA) is a relatively new care unit, which means we are still developing the unit together. It is a 24-hour operation and patients come to us from throughout the hospital. At KAVA, the Surgical Acute Care Unit, we care for patients with acute surgical and trauma diagnoses. KAVA has 24 inpatient beds and receives the majority of the acute surgical flow from the emergency department.
