University Lecturer in Medical Science, Precision Diagnostics

We are seeking a university lecturer in medical science for a permanent position at the Department of Medical Sciences. The position is a combined appointment with Region Örebro County. Subject Area The subject area for this position is medical science with a focus on precision diagnostics. Background At the Department of Medical Sciences (MV), undergraduate medical education, standalone courses in biomedicine, and postgraduate education and research in medical science are conducted. The Department has approximately 200 employees divided into five units, one of which is purely administrative. Research at MV has access to modern laboratory infrastructure, advanced sequencing platforms, regional biobank operations, and clinical data environments. This enables studies with direct links to patient-centered diagnostics and implementation of precision medicine methods in healthcare. The Faculty of Medicine and Health, together with Örebro University Hospital, participates in an initiative for the development and implementation of precision medicine for Swedish healthcare, Genomic Medicine Sweden (GMS). Additionally, MV is a host node for Clinical Genomics (CG) Örebro, part of Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab), Sweden's largest research infrastructure for life science. This position offers the opportunity to lead and further develop the university's engagement in these national initiatives. Duties As a university lecturer, you will divide your time between teaching at all levels and research, as well as associated collaboration. In addition to teaching, research, and collaboration, the position includes development work, administration, and professional development. Teaching also encompasses supervision, examination, course development, planning, and evaluation. This position is combined with clinical practice. The scientific part of the position includes conducting independent research, initiating and developing research projects, and actively seeking external research funding. The research should contribute to the emerging infrastructure for precision diagnostics and have natural connections with the development and implementation of next generation sequencing (NGS)-based methods within the framework of GMS and SciLifeLab Clinical Genomics, where opportunities for collaboration and clinical translation are particularly strong. In addition to the above, a specific mandate includes developing and leading Örebro University's participation and engagement in GMS- and CG-related projects and structures. This strategic assignment is estimated to correspond to 25-40% of the employment. The position is a combined appointment with 30% clinical practice. Qualifications To be eligible for appointment as a university lecturer, you must demonstrate pedagogical skill and hold a doctoral degree in a subject area relevant to the position, or possess equivalent scientific competence or other professional skills that are important given the subject content and duties of the position. A general qualification requirement for appointment as a teacher is completion of higher education pedagogy training corresponding to at least 10 weeks. Competence equivalent to higher education pedagogy training can be tested and assessed as meeting the qualification requirements.
