Both correctional and detention activities are conducted here with a high security level as it is a Class 2 facility. Our mission is to provide inmates with a safe and structured environment with a focus on work, education, and program activities that support a return to a life without crime. Job Description Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. As a correctional officer, you are part of a team where you have daily contact with clients. The tasks at the correctional facility/detention center are varied: care work, supervision, inspections, and security work are mixed with release planning and counseling/motivational work. Work at the detention center is often routine-based and focused on care and security tasks. Clients can be detained for long periods without meeting anyone other than their lawyer and the detention center staff, which places special demands on you as a correctional officer. At the detention center and correctional facility in Skänninge, operations are conducted seven days a week, Monday through Sunday. Work hours vary within the timeframe of 07:00-19:00, which means a shift can be, for example, 07:00-16:00, 11:00-19:00, or 07:00-19:00 depending on operational needs. You work every other weekend. You will begin your employment at the workplace where you will receive an introduction over three weeks. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in the Swedish Correctional Service's basic training, which is mandatory and covers 8 weeks. You will receive salary during the entire training period. During the probationary period, ongoing assessments are conducted regarding your suitability for a permanent position. Qualifications Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be confident, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you run the operations, so you need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required. For us, it is important that you share the Swedish Correctional Service's core values of a humanitarian view of people, respect for the individual, and belief in people's willingness and ability to develop. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect you and others. Furthermore, your approach is expected to contribute to everyone being treated equally. We place great emphasis on personal suitability. We are looking for someone who has: Complete upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Correctional Service considers relevant Work experience, also in the form of seasonal work, temporary employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing Good computer skills Class B driver's license It is also advantageous to have: Work experience from correctional services, security work, social care, psychiatry, or health and care work Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict resolution Language skills other than Swedish and English Other Information The Swedish Correctional Service has chosen to remove the personal letter and replaced it with selection questions that are relevant to the position.
