About the Department/Group You will be part of the Department of Fiber and Polymer Technology (FPT), Sweden's leading academic environment for research and education in polymers, fibers, cellulose-based materials, and sustainable technologies. FPT combines fundamental science with societal benefit through close collaboration with industry and research partners. As part of the Fiber Processes and Technology division, you will work in an ambitious and interdisciplinary team developing a new class of electronically tunable cellulose-based membranes that enable adaptive and digitally controlled separation processes. The research is led by Assistant Professor Tobias Benselfelt and focuses on nanofibrillary materials, electrochemically controlled membranes, and digitalized separation processes. More information about Tobias Benselfelt can be found at: https://www.kth.se/profile/bense Responsibilities The position involves research within the DynanoNet project, including: - Conducting independent research within the project's field. - Coordinating experimental work in collaboration with a doctoral student. - Presenting research results at project meetings, workshops, and international conferences. - Documenting and reporting project activities and progress. The successful candidate may also contribute to mentoring and supervision of doctoral and master's students. Qualifications Requirements - Completed PhD in materials science, chemical engineering, polymer science, electrochemistry, membrane science, or another field relevant to the project. This qualification requirement must be met by the time the employment decision is made. - Very good ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. Very strong English proficiency is necessary for effective communication in an international research environment. - Good ability to write scientific texts and to present and communicate research results. Field of Study Description The research field of electric power engineering encompasses studies of the system for generation, transmission, and use of electrical energy, as well as studies of the interaction between the electrical grid, power generation, and power consumption. Project Description This project concerns the impact of voltage sags and transients on large electrical drive systems in modern facilities that supply critical processes. The project will encompass emission, propagation, and immunity: the source of the voltage sag or transient; how the event spreads from its source to the equipment terminals; and the event's impact on the equipment, facility, and process. The study will include modeling of the propagation of voltage sags and transients, of modern facilities and processes, and of modern electrical drive systems. The project is conducted in collaboration between LTU and Energiforsk. Duties A doctoral position can involve both theoretical and practical work. As a PhD student, you will receive training in scientific work through publication of scientific articles in journals and at national and international conferences. You will also take mandatory and elective doctoral courses. Additionally, you may have the opportunity to try your hand at teaching. As a researcher, you work as a neutral party in many contexts, which provides an excellent opportunity to learn how to manage challenging development projects. Your work will primarily consist of theoretical models and simulations, but measurements in both laboratory and field settings may also be included.
