Registered Nurse - Medical Unit 4, Acute Care in Emergency/Medical Ward

Hospitals in the West is an administrative division within Västra Götalandsregionen and consists of four hospitals – Alingsås Hospital, Angered Community Hospital, Högsbo Community Hospital, and Kungälv Hospital. Approximately 3,000 employees work with us every day to provide good and safe specialist healthcare of the highest quality. Do you want to develop in an operation with broad medical expertise? Do you want to work close to the acute patient flow, make qualified clinical assessments, and at the same time develop in an operation with broad medical expertise? On Medical Unit 4, you will meet patients with everything from acute medical conditions and infections to cardiac, pulmonary, and surgical issues. The breadth means that no two days are alike, and you quickly develop strong clinical competence. We are a relatively young operation that continues to develop. This means you have the opportunity to influence working methods, routines, and future development, while also receiving support from experienced colleagues and a clear commitment to creating a safe and learning work environment. With us, there is a senior nurse function with clear clinical presence in daily work. The function is part of our systematic work with patient safety, learning, and competency development, and provides security for new colleagues as well as support and deepening for more experienced nurses. About Medical Unit 4 Medical Unit 4 is a broad internal medicine ward with 28 care beds where acute care and inpatient care work together. The unit encompasses both the emergency care unit (AVA) and traditional medical inpatient care, which creates a unique breadth and variation in daily work. We care for patients with a wide spectrum of medical diagnoses and, in the AVA, also surgical diagnoses. Many patients are early in their care journey and require careful clinical assessments, observations, and quick decisions, while others need continued medical treatment and care. This means that as a nurse, you develop both your acute competence and your ability to plan and coordinate care over time. Work is characterized by variation, flexibility, and the opportunity to gradually broaden or deepen your competence based on interest and experience. An operation in constant development Development is a natural part of our daily work. We continuously work to improve patient flows, working methods, and competency development to meet future care needs. We also have close collaboration with the hospital's other medical operations, including HIA and IMA, which creates good opportunities to broaden and deepen your competence within several different care levels. With us, you should be able to grow in your profession without having to leave the operation. Your role as a nurse With us, you work in a team together with doctors, nursing assistants, and senior nurses, in person-centered care with a focus on quality, patient safety, and good collaboration. Work is characterized by: - Acute and subacute care flows - Medical assessments and observations - Fast care processes where the right decision at the right time is crucial - Care of patients with complex care needs - Teamwork with shared responsibility for planning, implementing, and following up on care With us, you get the best of both worlds – the pace and clinical challenges of acute care, combined with the opportunity to follow the patient's continued care journey. This creates a unique work environment where you develop both broad medical competence and strong clinical judgment skills. Who are we looking for? We are looking for you who are a registered nurse and who: - Thrive in an environment with pace and variation - Want to work close to acute care but in an organized and safe context - Are curious, responsible, and like to learn new things - Appreciate collaboration and teamwork - Want to contribute to the development of the operation You can be newly graduated or have several years of experience. With us, it is just as important how you want to work as how long you have been doing it. Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability. Development and education We want you to feel safe in your role and continue to develop over time. Therefore, we offer: - Individually customized orientation (4-5 weeks) - Frequent follow-ups with the unit manager - Support from senior nurse in daily work - Regular internal training in medicine and care - Clinical foundation year for newly graduated nurses - Simulator training and cross-organizational learning Development with us is not a project on the side – it is part of everyday work. Other information Selection and interviews are ongoing, so don't delay your application. Welcome to a workplace where development, engagement, and collaboration are at the center – and where together we build the future of medical care. Our nursing team has low sick leave and strong cohesion - most have worked with us for a long time and we are very proud of our expertise and collegial support. We offer: Structured and individually tailored introduction with gradually increased patient responsibility and regular follow-up. Length and content are adapted to your experience (typically about 4-8 weeks). Introduction follows the department's basic schedule with day, evening, and weekend shifts to give a comprehensive picture of the operations. After that, the schedule changes to straight weeks according to agreement. A dedicated mentor who will support you during the first 6 months. We are currently developing a clear competency model within orthopedic nursing care. The model will clarify clinical progression, specialization areas, and opportunities for mentoring and development assignments. With us, you get the opportunity to grow - and be part of shaping the structure. Working hours day/evening with weekend duty according to the basic schedule. We offer the possibility of an initial agreement to work straight weeks (Monday-Friday) for 12 months, with possible extension based on operational needs and in dialogue with you. Job Duties As a nurse at orthopedic department 3, you can look forward to interesting, stimulating, and continuously developing work with both elective (planned) care and some more acute care for our complication patients. You are a work leader and care coordinator, working in close collaboration with various professions such as nurses, nurse assistants, physiotherapists, rehabilitation assistants, occupational therapists, dietitians, and physicians. With us, you will work with pre- and postoperative care, medication management, wound and infection control, mobilization and rehabilitation, acute care management, and team work/coordination as well as quality and improvement initiatives. Supervision of students and interns is also part of the work. We work in teams On weekdays, we have a coordinator function that supports work with patient placement and prioritization and assists with non-profession-specific tasks. Some of our nurse assistants also have expanded responsibilities, including inserting peripheral intravenous catheters, which creates good conditions for efficient and structured work regarding our preoperative preparations. This gives you as a nurse the opportunity to focus on your own work with support and resources close at hand when needed. Qualifications We are looking for you who are a licensed nurse and have an interest in orthopedic care. You enjoy teamwork and want to develop and contribute to a stable and long-term operation. Experience from operating and/or acute care is meritorious but not required - we place great emphasis on personal qualities. Application Due to the vacation period, selection and interviews will not begin until after the application deadline. The application should include a CV and personal letter. Certificates, grades, diplomas, etc., should be submitted at a possible interview. If you are or have previously been employed by Region Örebro län, we will take internal references from your current or former supervisor if you become a candidate for employment.
