Clinical Nurse Specialist in Intensive Care at CIVA

Department of Anesthesia, Surgery, and Intensive Care In anesthesia, surgery, and intensive care, we care for patients and families facing critical moments. For some, we are their last hope. For others, we create an opportunity for a better life. Whether you work in the sterilization unit, in one of our mobile operations, in the intensive care unit, or in the operating room, you play a crucial role in critical moments. We welcome your application to become part of our team. Do you want to work where your expertise makes a real difference—every day? At the Central Intensive Care Unit (CIVA), you meet patients and their loved ones during life's most critical moments. For some, we are their last hope; for others, the beginning of the journey back. It is work that places high demands—but also gives much in return. With us, you become part of a unit where advanced intensive care is combined with strong teamwork, continuous learning, and the opportunity to contribute across the entire care chain. Our Operations At CIVA, we care for approximately 850–900 patients annually with failure of vital life-supporting functions. We are responsible for intensive care in Uppsala County and simultaneously serve as a regional and national resource for highly specialized care. Our patients often have complex conditions such as severe infections, trauma, cardiac arrest, and advanced postoperative complications. Through close collaboration with other intensive care units, we also care for patients with conditions such as burns, neurological and thoracic diseases. The work is varied and fast-paced, with rapid shifts and strong teamwork. Your Assignment As a clinical nurse specialist in intensive care at CIVA, your primary responsibility is to care for our hospitalized patients with failure of vital functions. You work in a patient-centered manner as part of a team with nursing assistants, intensive care physicians, and physiotherapists, delivering advanced intensive care based on each patient's needs. Beyond this, you participate in CIVA's hospital-wide assignments. Within Adult Emergency Response, you may serve as the emergency response nurse coordinator and work with intensive care physicians in acute interventions throughout the hospital, where quick decisions and good collaboration are essential. You also participate in the post-intensive care follow-up team (PIG), where we follow up with patients after their discharge from ICU. You plan and coordinate follow-up together with the care unit and other professionals, contributing to continuity, reassurance, and increased understanding of the intensive care experience. This fall, we are launching a pilot program with a mobile intensive care team (MIG). Working with intensive care physicians, you will proactively provide early interventions for patients who deteriorate on the care unit, with a focus on preventing serious conditions and strengthening patient safety. Your Qualifications and Competence We are seeking a registered nurse with a clinical nurse specialist qualification in intensive care. You may be new to the role or have extensive experience. You work in a structured manner even at a fast pace, have strong collaborative skills, and feel confident in your professional role. You have a patient-centered approach and the ability to make decisions in complex situations. Personal suitability is highly valued. What We Offer With us, you will have a rewarding and meaningful work day in a highly specialized environment. We offer a permanent position with rotation across day, evening, and night shifts in a schedule that promotes recovery. You will receive individualized orientation with support from our department educator and continuous professional development through training and reflection in your daily work. The position offers you the opportunity to develop both in advanced intensive care work and through our hospital-wide assignments. You become part of an experienced and supportive team where we share responsibility—with us, you are never alone. We have strong connections to research and education in collaboration with Uppsala University and an established post-ICU clinic. Our facilities are designed for a good work environment with ergonomic lighting and sound. You are offered wellness benefits up to 3,000 kronor and other benefits through Region Uppsala. We offer benefits that make a difference; read more about our benefits here (https://regionuppsala.se/formaner/). Want to Know More? Please feel free to contact: Anna Allenbrant, Unit Manager 018-611 48 39 [email protected] Union Contact: Vårdförbundet (Swedish Nurses Union) [email protected] You are also welcome to shadow us. Interested in Working With Us? Submit your application using the link below. The position may be filled before the application deadline, so don't delay in sending your application. Region Uppsala values the qualities that equal gender distribution and diversity bring to operations and welcomes applications from all genders and candidates with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and life experiences. Region Uppsala has contingency plans for all permanent staff based on national defense needs. For the individual employee, this involves no obligations in peacetime and is solely a planning measure. Before making an employment decision, background checks will be conducted for all applicants who, in the sought position, may work within psychiatric care, rehabilitation, care of children and youth, or compulsory care of substance abusers—areas covered by optional register checks. This applies to all who will work directly with patients, even if current work tasks are not primarily intended to involve the above-mentioned patient groups. This recruitment is conducted entirely by Region Uppsala, and we do not accept calls from recruitment firms or advertising sales representatives.
