The Employment and Integration Department is responsible for integration of newly arrived immigrants, employment matters, and municipal activity responsibility in Umeå Municipality. Your responsibilities As a Study and Career Counselor within the department, you will collaborate with employed study and career counselors within municipal activity responsibility (KAA, Education Act 29 chapter §9). Your assignment includes supporting, motivating, and guiding young people and adults, both individually and in groups, to clarify pathways toward education or employment. The work includes both shorter and longer interventions for participants who are far from the labor market and education system. Therefore, it is important to have a coaching approach, the ability to follow individuals' development over time, and the courage to explore new opportunities and ways forward together with people who have lost motivation. The assignment involves creating conditions to begin/resume studies, or to take steps toward internships/employment. Collaboration with various actors, supporting applications to different educational options, and planning, following up, and concluding internships are part of the role. In your assignment, you actively contribute to developing the department's work around education by highlighting education as an option for all ages. Documentation tasks within KAA require that you have the willingness to learn, or knowledge of, relevant systems for follow-up. Postdoctoral Researcher in "The Role of Exported Proteins in Malaria Infection"

The Department of Molecular Biology is seeking a postdoctoral researcher for a fixed-term full-time position of two years with a start date of November 1, 2026, or by agreement. Project Description and Responsibilities Malaria is caused by Plasmodium parasites that invade and multiply inside red blood cells. The disease arises from the destruction of red blood cells and the sequestration of infected cells in the microvasculature within the body's organs, a process called organ sequestration. To establish a replicative niche, obtain nutrients, excrete waste products, and adhere to the microvasculature, the parasite exports hundreds of proteins into the infected host cell. Genetic screens have identified which of these exported parasite proteins are important for infection during the blood stage. However, for the majority of exported proteins, it remains unknown which cellular processes they actually participate in. This project will utilize Plasmodium berghei, a malaria model parasite that infects rodents and whose genome can be manipulated efficiently, to systematically investigate the role of exported parasite proteins in malaria infection and disease. You will develop and apply scalable genetic tools and new analytical methods to identify parasite genes encoding exported proteins that are important for the parasite's invasion of host cells, replication, and organ sequestration. The most promising candidate genes will be studied further through in-depth studies in both P. berghei and the human malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum. You will also perform experimental and bioinformatic work, design experiments, present your results, write manuscripts, assist in supervising students, and actively contribute to a collegial and inclusive laboratory culture. Qualifications To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, you must hold a doctorate degree or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a Swedish doctorate in biological sciences. This qualification requirement must be met by the time the employment decision is made. You should be highly motivated and able to work productively both as part of a team and independently. Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with colleagues and other staff are required. Good skills in written and spoken English are also required. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability. The applicant should have experience with molecular cloning methods, such as design and construction of gene vectors and practical experience with CRISPR/Cas9. Experience with cultivation and transfection of eukaryotic parasites and experience and training in laboratory animal science (rodents) are required. The School of Architecture at Umeå University is seeking a project assistant for an upcoming research project focused on circular building practices and the use of reclaimed and reused building materials. This is a part-time position (50%) on a permanent basis, with a start date in October 2026 or by agreement. Project Background This position is linked to the two-year research and development project Scalable Processes for Reuse in the Building Sector, a collaborative initiative between Umeå University and ABC Umeå, financed by Tillväxtverket. Within the project, the School of Architecture at Umeå University is responsible for developing methods and knowledge for circular and material-based design through research and documentation, as well as contributing to the development of a full-scale demonstration project. The project contributes to strengthening regional capacity for material reuse and circular building in northern Sweden. As an on-duty investigation leader, you act operatively and take responsibility for the cases handled by the function. We are now seeking you who are interested in working as an on-duty investigation leader in Örnsköldsvik, Härnösand, Kramfors, or Sundsvall. 1 position(s). DUTIES As an on-duty investigation leader, the team operates 24/7 throughout the year in regional, police district, and local police district cases. You supervise patrols in the field to take far-reaching and relevant immediate action, and you also supervise the investigation resources available during day and evening shifts to ensure that appropriate and adequate investigative measures are taken in the cases for which you are the investigation leader. As a supervisor, you also have a responsibility for the work environment based on your supervisory function. Together with the group supervisors, you coach, motivate, and support employees and create conditions for them to succeed in the crime investigation and crime prevention mission. As an on-duty investigation leader, you act offensively and lawfully in accordance with applicable legislation. You also cooperate with, among others, crime coordination, station commanders, on-duty commanders, RLC commanders, external commanders, the Police Contact Center (PKC), local investigation leaders, prosecutors, the court system, defense attorneys, and the correctional service. Within the team, expedited prosecution (SLF) is handled, where you as investigation leader support patrols on-site in cases to be handled within SLF and manage the case until it is handed over to the prosecutor. As an on-duty investigation leader, you may also serve as investigation leader in other teams/units and/or in individual cases. QUALIFICATIONS This is an opportunity for you who have: • Police degree according to Regulation (2014:1105) on police training or other education or work experience that the employer deems relevant • Relevant professional experience in independent criminal investigation work • Very good ability to express yourself in Swedish in speech and writing • Good computer skills and good knowledge of the MS Office package It is advantageous if you also have: • Relevant experience in supervision with good results. • Current and relevant experience in investigation leadership with good results. Beneficial to have experience with investigation leadership in an on-duty environment • Experience in independent criminal investigation work with good results. • Completed the Police investigation leader training at least at the basic level with passing results. The role of investigation leader is complex and places high demands on the ability to work both independently and in a team, to build good relationships, and to cooperate well both internally and externally. To succeed in the role, you need to be active in your supervision and independently be able to drive investigations and work tasks forward in a responsible manner. As the work load can be high at times, you need to be able to remain calm in stressful situations, make assessments of which work tasks need to be prioritized, and make quick decisions based on the known facts available even if the full picture is not yet clear. Since operations are event-driven, it requires that you as a person are flexible, unpretentious, and coaching toward your colleagues.
