The Agency for Marine and Water Management started a project in 2021 with the aim of applying ecosystem-based marine management in practice. The idea is to develop a management model that can be used throughout the country. 8+Fjords has been selected as one of three pilot areas for the project. The other areas are the Stockholm archipelago and Southern Bothnian Sea. 8+Fjords started in 2008 as a result of disappearing fish stocks and deteriorating marine environment. Since then, 8+Fjords in Bohuslän has worked systematically with various measures to restore and improve the water environment in the coastal area from Nordre River to Uddevalla. The municipalities covered by the project are: Stenungsund, Kungälv, Tjörn, Orust and Uddevalla in Bohuslän. In addition, the County Administrative Board, University of Gothenburg, SMHI and SLU participate in the project.
