Postdoctoral Fellow in Political Science
The research project "The importance of social and biological inheritance for people's life chances: New approaches at the intersection of social science and genetics" is funded by a four-year infrastructure grant from the Swedish Research Council. The project aims to increase knowledge about how the complex interplay between genes and environment shapes people's health and their position in the social and economic hierarchy. More specifically, we utilize the rapidly growing availability of large-scale genotype data in Europe, combined with detailed register data and survey data from multiple countries, to investigate how specific genetic factors co-vary and interact with social, political, and economic conditions. The goal is to better understand how these factors together contribute to variation in outcomes such as health, education, income, political participation, social trust, and other behaviors. The project aims to further develop a leading interdisciplinary research environment at the forefront of the social science genomics research field. The project is now seeking a postdoctoral fellow at Uppsala University, who will work in close collaboration with three other postdoctoral fellows at Uppsala University, University of Oslo, and Amsterdam UMC, as well as other project members at all three nodes. A description of the project can be found here. The employed postdoctoral fellow is expected to conduct research with a focus on one or more of the project's central questions. To facilitate research collaboration, the employee will spend some time at the other two nodes. The position is located at the Department of Government. Uppsala University was founded in 1477 and is consistently ranked among the world's top 100 universities in international rankings. The university has over 50,000 students and approximately 7,500 employees. The Department of Government has a history of research and education spanning more than 400 years. More information about the Department of Government can be found on our website: www.statsvet.uu.se Job Duties The position comprises research (at least 80 percent of working time) and teaching (at most 20 percent). Teaching may occur at all levels. The position includes the following job duties: Conduct independent research and collaborate with other project participants within the framework of the project. Contribute to scientific publications and other research results. Participate in project meetings, department seminars, and activities organized by the collaborating institutions. Handle and analyze relevant data in accordance with the project's research plan. As needed, assist with teaching and supervision at undergraduate or advanced level (up to 20 percent), in accordance with the department's needs. The assessment criterion is the ability to develop and conduct research of high quality. Applicants must demonstrate documented research competence in areas relevant to the project through the quality of their doctoral dissertation and/or other scientific publications. We are particularly interested in applicants with a solid background in quantitative methods, experience working with register data, and experience with modern methods for using molecular genetic information to identify genetic effects on human behavioral outcomes, such as GWAS methodology, use of polygenic indices, and similar methods. Very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written, is required. Since the research is conducted in close collaboration with a larger research group, we also value documented ability to collaborate well with others. Application The application must contain the following: CV Copies of degree certificates Publication list Two (2) representative publications (of which only one can be a monograph or compiled dissertation) Contact information for two (2) references Terms The postdoctoral employment is a full-time position for two years with start date 2026-09-16, with the possibility of extension for one year.
