Mechatronics Engineer – Advanced Materials, Design and Multi-Level Modeling (m/f)
Clarifying Information: Reporting Structure The Mechatronics Engineer will report to the CTO and CEO & Founder of the company. Job Overview The Mechatronics Engineer will design, operate, and maintain multiple 3D printers to provide support for rapid prototyping across all FabLab locations. This role involves active participation in every phase of the product design and 3D printing process, from initial CAD file review through part completion, including post-processing, material selection, simulation, optimization, data analysis, and research and development of new materials and components. The Engineer will ensure smooth operations so that outputs are manufactured as efficiently as possible, provide key feedback on manufacturability based on material parameters, plan production schedules, and operate state-of-the-art 3D printers. Additionally, the role includes sharing feedback with the team and community to improve our 3D tools, while collaborating with colleagues on continuous improvement of product quality and manufacturing efficiency. Responsibilities and Duties • Use software such as Creo, SolidWorks, Autodesk, Netfabb, Simplify3D, Ansys, Altair Hyperworks and/or Magics to review, design, and prepare parts for printing on various 3D printers, including FabLab machines. • Create technical drawings in various languages (Spanish, English, German, and Czech). • Design and manufacture large-scale 3D printers. • Prepare files for 3D printing; fix issues or communicate quickly with the originator if necessary. • Ensure all 3D printers are properly maintained and calibrated. • Select appropriate materials and settings for printing. • Troubleshoot design, material, or equipment issues. • Perform post-processing to clean and prepare parts for use. • Research and develop new 3D printers, techniques, and materials. • Provide input on automation strategies to scale services. • Offer feedback to the product team regarding material properties and design rules. • Travel to other locations, such as partner operations in Ghana, as needed. Qualifications • Master's degree in Mechatronics Engineering (EU4M Erasmus Mundus preferred). • 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment. See clarifications on page 2 (or last page).
