PhD Student in Human Ecology

Job Responsibilities: The doctoral education program comprises 240 credits (equivalent to four years of full-time studies). It formally concludes with the doctoral student publicly defending their printed doctoral dissertation. The holder of a doctoral position has the primary responsibility to successfully complete doctoral-level education that culminates in a doctoral degree. Employment regulations for full-time doctoral positions are specified in the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 5, Sections 1-7. The doctoral student is expected to actively participate in the department's research and teaching environment, particularly within the Human Ecology Division, and may be required to perform institutional duties, mainly teaching, comprising approximately 20 percent of full-time work. The doctoral position is linked to the project "Swedish Electricity," a multidisciplinary collaboration between universities in Lund, Gothenburg, and the University of Borås. The project aims to critically examine and understand how nationalism influences the development of energy systems and how nationalist narratives around electricity relate to issues of exploitation, justice, and preparedness. The doctoral student is affiliated with the part of the project addressing historical developments and is expected to contribute research on these topics from a comparative and critical perspective, focusing on the historical development and changes of the Swedish electricity system. We therefore welcome research ideas aligned with the project's objectives. As a doctoral student, you are expected to publish your own or co-authored research and work closely with the project team, contributing actively to it. You are expected to present results at national and international conferences. During your studies, you will have the opportunity to participate in activities (courses, workshops, etc.) organized by Lund Centre for Disaster Science and Resilience (LUPREP). Eligibility Requirements: Basic eligibility for admission to doctoral education is held by those who have: - completed a degree at the advanced level - completed course requirements of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are at the advanced level, or - acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in another manner within or outside the country. Employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Legislation Collection 1998:80. Only those who are or have been admitted to doctoral education may be employed as doctoral students. When filling such a position, the student's ability to benefit from doctoral education shall be the primary consideration. In addition to pursuing studies, those appointed to doctoral positions may be required to work with teaching duties, research, and administration, according to special provisions in the ordinance. The employee will work at SciLifeLab Data Centre (DC), which is responsible for IT issues and research data management for SciLifeLab's technology platforms and other SciLifeLab-organized programs and activities, including the national research program for data-driven life science (DDLS). We have a national mission and operate services for life science data and e-infrastructure, as well as matters related to FAIR principles, open science, and data-driven research, in strong collaboration with national and international actors. Duties and ResponsibilitiesSciLifeLab Data Centre (DC) is seeking a manager for our scientific data services operational area. The area currently employs approximately 20 systems developers and data engineers located at several of our partner universities, focusing on the development, operation, and support of data services with scientific and bioinformatic content, such as for AI models and computational applications, FAIR sharing of research data for infectious diseases, biodiversity, image data, cell and molecular biology, etc. Services are developed based on needs from SciLifeLab's users and as part of SciLifeLab Data Centre's mission as a digital infrastructure provider. The work targets users within national infrastructure as well as within the Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS) program and Swedish life science researchers in general. A focus for the coming years is to build common integrative services for multimodal data generated at SciLifeLab's infrastructure platforms. As the manager of this area, you will be responsible for personnel and financial matters for the operational area, participate in our management group, and coordinate work within the area with other operational areas at DC. This includes, for example, areas for research data management, IT, and service management. You will also play a key role in DC's strategic work within SciLifeLab for digital infrastructure, and in our collaboration efforts with university administration, other national infrastructures (such as NAISS, SUNET, and SND), and international partners (such as EMBL, CSC, CERN, and VIB).
