Administrative Law Attorney

Strong research and attractive educational programs attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, University of Gothenburg contributes to a better future. One of our attorneys in the unit will be on leave for one year, and we are therefore seeking a substitute. If you have an interest in handling cases, formulating internal regulations, and contributing to a unified legal perspective with high quality, this could be the right role for you. We are looking for someone who sees law as a central part of public administration—not as an obstacle, but as a tool for creating clarity, legal certainty, and structure. If you also have a particular interest in administrative law, we see that as a great asset. As an administrative law attorney, you will work in the Section for Administrative Law, which is located in the Unit for Legal Affairs and Information Management under Shared Administration (GF) at the university. GF supports all the university's faculties and institutions so that we can fulfill our mission in research, education, and collaboration with society. In the section, administrative law attorneys and case handlers work together. Job Responsibilities As an administrative law attorney, you will assist university leadership, faculties, institutions, and other administrative support with administrative and higher education law matters. Your work will also include formulating internal regulations, guidelines, and policies for the university's operations, as well as participating in internal information and training initiatives. Your responsibilities include, among other things: assisting with legal advice and expertise with a focus on administrative and higher education law within operations, handling cases concerning the disclosure of public documents, responding to referrals and handling supervisory matters, participating in the development of the university's governing documents and regulations, participating in training sessions, seminars, and information meetings on applicable regulations and their application, handling disciplinary cases related to suspected misconduct. Qualifications We are looking for someone with a law degree and some years of professional experience with independent legal work. Current experience at a university or college working in the field of administrative law is a merit, as is experience with case handling and internal legal advice in government agencies. The outward-facing role with many internal and external contact points requires both social competence, clarity, and pedagogical ability. As an attorney, you have the ability to communicate simply, professionally, and clearly with non-lawyers. You are committed to working in accordance with the Administrative Procedure Act's provisions for fast, efficient, and legally sound case handling, and you have the ability to plan and structure your work, especially during high workloads and stressful situations. It is important that you have good cooperation skills and want to contribute to community and a good work environment. Excellent knowledge in speech and writing in Swedish and English is a prerequisite. We place great emphasis on your personal qualities and assume that you have a strong sense of service and responsibility. Employment The employment is a substitute position until August 31, 2027, at 100% with placement in the Section for Administrative Law within the Unit for Legal Affairs and Information Management.
