Estimator - Earthworks, Civil Works, Concrete

We are recruiting an Estimator and Contract Engineer for our client with placement in Norrtälje or Hallstavik. Would you like to have a central role in an earthworks and civil works company where you get to be involved early in projects, influence which jobs we estimate on, and contribute all the way from inquiry to completed project? Our client is now seeking an estimator/bid manager with experience in earthworks, civil works, and concrete. The role suits you if you enjoy figures, structure, and business – but also want to be close to production and understand how projects are actually executed. The company performs earthworks and civil works in Roslagen and the Stockholm area. Their projects vary in both size and character and include, among other things, earthworks, water and sanitation, foundations, finish grading, development work, concrete structures, and work for companies, the public sector, and professional clients. About the Role As an estimator, you will have an important function in the company's business flow. You work closely with site managers, project managers, supervisors, suppliers, and subcontractors. You are responsible for monitoring incoming inquiries, assessing which projects are interesting, driving the estimation process, and submitting competitive bids. When projects are won, you are also involved in the handover to production and provide support during project execution. The role also includes developing simple schedules as well as resource and equipment planning linked to the estimate. Therefore, you need to have a practical understanding of how the work should be carried out, what resources are required, and what risks need to be managed already at the bid stage. This is not an isolated desk role. We want you to understand production, visit projects, follow up on estimates, and help us continually improve at choosing the right jobs, calculating correctly, and executing projects with good profitability. Your Main Responsibilities The role includes, among other things: • Daily review of incoming inquiries via info email and other channels. • Monitor inquiries on platforms such as e-Avrop, Projektagenten, and similar procurement platforms. • Compile interesting upcoming projects and possible business opportunities. • Prepare and schedule estimation meetings with the site manager. • Review scope requirements, risks, opportunities, resources, and bid strategy. • Take responsibility for assigned estimates from processing inquiry documents to completed bid submission. • Prepare estimates for earthworks, civil works, and concrete work, including more complex concrete structures. • Send bid requests to suppliers and subcontractors. • Develop simple schedules linked to the estimate. • Develop resource and equipment planning for bids and estimates. • Serve as contact person for questions during the bid phase. • Compile estimate, risks, assumptions, and bid documentation for review. • Conduct internal handover to the project manager or responsible supervisor upon project award. • Perform project follow-up on larger projects. • Provide project support to the project manager, supervisors, and others in production. • Visit projects regularly to follow up on estimates, execution, and lessons learned. • Assist with forecasting work together with the project manager and site manager. Who Are We Looking For? We are seeking someone with experience from the earthworks and civil works industry who understands how contract projects are built up economically, technically, and practically. You may currently work as an estimator, supervisor, project manager, contract engineer, project leader, or self-employed within earthworks, civil works, or concrete. The most important thing is that you have industry knowledge, can read inquiry documents, and have the ability to assess risks, quantities, resources, equipment needs, and costs. You need to be able to work systematically through the entire estimation process – from the first review of the inquiry documentation to the completed bid, internal review, and handover to production. As a person, you are structured, thorough, and business-minded. You enjoy creating order, driving processes forward, and taking responsibility for your tasks. You are used to collaborating with others, but can also work independently and make decisions when needed. You also need to be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing, as the role involves contact with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and colleagues internally. We Believe You Have • Experience in earthworks and civil works. • Experience with estimates, bids, production, or project follow-up. • Ability to read and understand inquiry documents, quantity lists, drawings, and technical descriptions. • Good understanding of costs, resources, risks, and contract economics. • Knowledge and/or experience preparing estimates for more complex concrete structures. • Ability to develop simple schedules linked to bids and estimates. • Ability to develop resource and equipment planning linked to estimates. • Experience working in Excel. • Basic knowledge of contract law, such as AB 04 and ABT 06. • Good Swedish in speech and writing. • Class B driver's license. Meritorious Experience It is meritorious if you have: • Experience working in Bidcon. • Experience working in Next. • Experience with public procurement. • Experience in both estimation and production within earthworks, civil works, and concrete. • Experience with estimates and bids for projects with higher requirements for security, confidentiality, or special client requirements. • Experience from security-classified projects or projects involving security protection, SUA agreements, or security screening. • Experience from projects for, for example, Fortifikationsverket, Försvarsmakten, or other operations with high security awareness requirements. • Understanding of how work on security-sensitive projects affects bids, planning, resource selection, subcontractors, document management, and execution. • Knowledge of regulations related to security protection, such as the security protection act and defense-related regulations. Because we want to develop our ability to submit bids on projects with high security and client requirements, particularly within the public sector and total defense-related infrastructure, we consider it particularly meritorious if you have experience from projects involving security protection, SUA agreements, security screening, or special confidentiality handling. Experience from projects for, for example, Fortifikationsverket, Försvarsmakten, or similar clients is highly meritorious.
