No. 90000068977 announces a competition for vacant scientific personnel positions: FACULTY OF NATURAL SCIENCES AND TECHNOLOGY Institute of Biomaterials and Bioengineering one (1) RESEARCHER position (1 full-time equivalent) – Field: Engineering Sciences and Technologies 2.5. Materials Science, Biomaterials sub-field. Requirements for candidates: · PhD in materials science; · ability to independently conduct scientific research and lead scientific research work; · knowledge and experience in developing and manufacturing new in vitro prototypes with bone-like biomaterials; · knowledge and experience in platelet-rich fibrin synthesis, characterization and application; · knowledge and experience in collagen extraction, characterization and sample preparation; · knowledge and experience in calcium phosphate synthesis, characterization and application; · experience in compiling and publishing scientific data, minimum 9 publications (indexed in SCOPUS) in the last 5 years; · English language knowledge and skills at B2 level for performing international work duties. Salary from 3116.82 EUR per month for full-time position. (profession code 1345 04) We are seeking a leader who will direct RTU BMF DPI, promoting its development and strengthening international competitiveness in studies, research, and innovation. The Institute integrates safety, management, logistics, industrial engineering, and engineering science competencies. Key Responsibilities: Development and implementation of the Institute's strategy; Promotion of the Institute's development and competitiveness in studies, research, and innovation; Leadership of the Institute's change and process improvement initiatives; Financial planning (including annual), budget management, and securing funding (scientific projects, industry contracts, training, etc.); Organization of the Institute's daily operations and process improvement; Leadership of research and innovation direction development within the structural unit; Team building, development, and motivation, including supervision of academic and general staff skills and competency development; Attraction of new specialists and collaboration partners, including international ones, to the Institute's activities, including ensuring personnel selection and onboarding of new employees; Promotion of collaboration with industry and international partners (Latvian and foreign universities; enterprises; state and municipal institutions). Requirements: Doctoral degree in a field significant for the Institute's strategic development (engineering sciences, industrial engineering and management, economics, logistics, customs procedures, civil protection, integrated security, and other fields related to the Institute's activities); At least 3 years of continuous work experience within the last 10 years in managing a structural unit, enterprise, or organization, including financial and resource management; Knowledge of the official language (C1 level) and English language knowledge (at least B2 level) for daily communication with colleagues and collaboration partners; Readiness to become a State Official in accordance with the conditions of Section 4 of the Law "On the Prevention of Conflict of Interest in the Activities of State Officials"; Work experience in integrated security, management, quality management, economics, civil protection, customs, logistics, management sciences, or other fields related to the Institute's activities; Experience in attracting project funding, collaboration with state or municipal institutions, international organizations, or industry; Impeccable reputation. The Self-Organizing Systems Kinetics Laboratory at the Institute of Solid State Physics of the University of Latvia (LU ISSP) invites you to join our team as a lead researcher in the study of ion irradiation of materials and radiation-induced changes (fixed-term position from 01.11.2026 to 31.05.2027), 1 full-time position. The laboratory focuses on materials research and characterization, with special attention to structural and physical changes induced by ion irradiation. Position: Lead Researcher Start Date: 01.11.2026 Employment Type: Fixed-term contract until 31.05.2027 Salary: 2500–3100 EUR/month (gross), depending on qualifications and experience Key Responsibilities: Planning, preparation, and execution of swift heavy ion (SHI) irradiation experiments on project materials; Selection of irradiation parameters, including ion type, fluence, and temperature, and coordination of experiments with project partners; Sample preparation for irradiation experiments and subsequent materials characterization; Structural and physical characterization of irradiated and non-irradiated samples and comparative analysis of obtained experimental data; Processing and interpretation of XRD, Raman, SEM, and AFM data, as well as hardness and other materials characterization data, evaluating irradiation-induced changes in materials structure and properties; Documentation of experimental results and preparation of materials for technical reports and scientific publications. Requirements: PhD degree in Physics, Materials Science, or a related field; Scientific research experience in materials research and ion irradiation experiments, including heavy ion irradiation; Practical experience in conducting irradiation experiments, sample preparation, and structural characterization of irradiated materials; Experience in processing and interpretation of XRD, Raman, SEM, AFM data; Ability to independently process and interpret experimental data and prepare materials for scientific publications and technical reports; Ability to collaborate in an international project team.
