Special Education Teacher in the Children's Team at Child and Youth Rehabilitation

Services are provided in the form of multidisciplinary teams to the child/young person and their network. Child and Youth Rehabilitation is part of the Children and Young Adults (BUV) area together with Adult Rehabilitation, Parent and Child Health, and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. DUTIES As a special education teacher at BUH, your work will focus on younger children with neurosomatosensory and neuropsychiatric disabilities such as mobility impairments, intellectual disabilities, autism, or multiple disabilities. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team around the child where your special education expertise provides the pedagogical component of the intervention. At the unit, you have two experienced special education teacher colleagues, which enables close collegial exchange, supervision, and mentorship. Together you hold regular professional meetings where you address professional matters. Your duties consist of preschool and school observations, assessments for evaluations, and interventions providing support to the child's network regarding interaction during play, social engagement, and communication. Interventions can take place in the child's home, preschool/school, or at BUH. The special education teacher works to create good conditions for the child's learning and skill development through pedagogical methods and assistive devices as well as through group treatment and training for the child's network. Interventions are designed and planned based on each child's specific needs, goals, and circumstances. As a special education teacher at BUH, you are the team's pedagogical voice. All staff work toward the child's participation in their rehabilitation, but as a special education teacher you have an additional responsibility to help your colleagues understand how to include the child considering their specific circumstances. Together with your colleagues, you ensure that decisions concerning the child are made in the child's best interest. QUALIFICATIONS It is a requirement that you have worked with children in preschool age. Experience working in child and youth rehabilitation is desirable. DUTIES Your main tasks are to conduct supervisory/consultative interventions to the different teams at BUP and provide training to other staff. You will conduct group activities and education for patients and relatives. Individual patient work is primarily directed towards children and young people with ADHD. Examples of work tasks include comprehensive activity assessment, assistive device assessment and prescription, environmental adaptations in the home, and recommendations that require individual documentation. In this role, you'll work Monday through Thursday with longer shifts and then have Friday through Sunday completely off.
