JOB DUTIES Work as a detention officer involves handling and meeting individuals who have been deprived of their liberty for various reasons. Several are detained for the purpose of investigating crimes, but it can also involve shorter detentions due to intoxication. The detention officer is the person the detainee has closest contact with during their stay as a person deprived of liberty in the detention facility, and the work is conducted under the leadership of a station commander. The assignment includes administrative tasks such as documentation regarding detention and supervision, as well as more hands-on tasks such as assisting intervention activities with transport or various forms of testing. It also includes assisting the local police district with other administrative work tasks. Work pace varies over time and depends on how many people are detained.
