Uppsala University, Department of Medical Sciences Description of the Subject Area Hematology is a central clinical and academic subject area with strong connections to both research and education as well as to highly specialized care. The subject encompasses diagnosis and treatment of malignant and benign blood disorders, including leukemias, lymphomas, myeloma and myelodysplastic syndromes as well as stem cell transplantation and advanced cell therapy. Duties The professorship entails overall responsibility for exercising collective and strategic academic leadership and for the long-term development of the hematology subject area. The person employed is expected to lead and develop research in hematology and actively contribute to education at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels. The professor shall supervise doctoral students and contribute to the development of the research environment, including actively seeking external research funding. The position also includes clinical work as a specialist physician in hematology at Academic Hospital, which involves close integration of research, education, and clinical activities. The professor is also expected to contribute to cooperation with healthcare and the surrounding community. Eligibility Requirements To be eligible for employment as a professor, a person must have demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical competence (Chapter 4, Section 3 of the Higher Education Act). According to Section 5 of the Employment Regulations for Uppsala University (AO), the general eligibility requirement for teachers is that the applicant shall have the ability to cooperate and otherwise meet the fitness requirements needed to perform the work duties well. Scientific competence shall be demonstrated through independent research contributions and by the applicant's qualifications being of very high quality from an international perspective.
