Probation Officer for Probation Services Umeå

About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now seeking additional staff members. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the cycle of crime. If we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation services, remand facilities, and client transportation. Probation Services Northern Norrland encompasses the counties of Västernorrland, Västerbotten, and Norrbotten and has staffed offices in Luleå, Gällivare, Umeå, and Sundsvall. We are now seeking probation officers for Team 1 and Team 2. In Team 1, you work primarily with various processes, including pre-sentence investigations, electronic monitoring, detention matters, community service, and supervision organization. In Team 2, you work primarily with supervision and long-term client work. The role involves collaboration with other authorities. Travel is required in both positions, and in Team 2, more frequent travel to our branch office in Skellefteå may occur. Interviews are expected to be conducted in week 35. Job Description Probation Services activities should be perceived as clear and predictable. This is achieved, among other things, by carrying out work in the manner we have determined and described. Probation Services' dual mandate—to both control and support clients—is important regardless of which role you hold within probation work. In its work, Probation Services must collaborate with other actors to ensure clients receive the support they need. As a probation officer, you are responsible for conditionally released clients and clients sentenced to protective supervision who are under supervision. Probation Services is also responsible for electronic monitoring, known as electronic tags, and community service. Work within Probation Services also includes investigative work, conducting risk and needs assessments, and developing plans for sentence execution. The work tasks also include conducting pre-sentence investigations and providing statements to the court and recommending appropriate sanctions. As a probation officer, you actively participate in intervention work directed toward clients, including structured case officer conversations based on CBT, motivating participation in program activities, and assisting in release preparation for clients in custody. The probation officer is responsible for ensuring the client executes their sentence/completes their supervision and coordinates all measures in the client's sentence execution plan. The work of a probation officer consists of two equally important parts: both support and control. If a client fails to comply with their supervision, you as a probation officer must be able to address non-compliance in accordance with regulations. You need to be able to manage the complexity of working with both the support and control functions, which can be challenging. Qualifications We are looking for someone who is secure, stable, and has good self-awareness. You have a good understanding of how people acquire knowledge and adapt your way of conveying messages to the recipient's circumstances. In your professional practice, you have good judgment, strong collaboration skills, and the ability to work independently. We see that you understand your role and consider the benefit of the entire organization in your actions and decisions. You must also have a physical condition that enables you to act physically if the situation requires it. For us, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's core values of a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and belief in people's willingness and ability to develop. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect both you and others. Furthermore, through your approach, you are expected to contribute to ensuring that everyone is treated equally. We place great importance on personal suitability. We are looking for someone who has: An academic degree (minimum bachelor's level) in behavioral science, law, social work, criminology, or other social science discipline. Good proficiency in using the Swedish language both spoken and written. A class B driver's license, as travel is required in the work. It is also advantageous to have: Well-documented work experience in social care, psychiatry, and/or correctional services. Experience with case management in public sector work involving authority execution. Experience with investigative work and preparing materials for decision-making. Experience with collaboration among multiple actors in public sector activities. Language skills beyond Swedish. Other Information The Swedish Prison and Probation Service has chosen to eliminate the personal statement and replaced it with selection questions relevant to the position. Your answers to the selection questions and your CV will be the basis for determining whether you are qualified to proceed in the process. To be considered for employment with the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, you must meet high standards regarding suitability, judgment, security and confidentiality awareness, and compliance with applicable laws. This means you must uphold democratic values and the state values that apply to the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's activities. Certain positions are classified as sensitive, and a security vetting with record checking will be conducted before an employment decision is made. For certain security-classified positions, Swedish citizenship is required. The Swedish Prison and Probation Service welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Learn more about security vetting here: https://www.kriminalvarden.se/jobba-hos-oss/rekryteringsprocessen/sakerhetsprovning-vid-rekrytering/ The position may involve civil contingency placement with the Swedish Prison and Probation Service. You thrive in a leadership role where you influence through knowledge, structure, and coaching, but you're also not afraid to dig into the code when needed. You have a clear engineering mindset and are comfortable with code, architecture, and process alike. You've likely worked in product teams where quality was business-critical and automation was a fundamental requirement. You have a deep understanding of the software development process and can take a helicopter perspective while also diving into details to reason about the risks that different types of changes carry. We'd love to see that you have: Several years of experience with quality engineering or test automation in product development Strong technical understanding of web-based and distributed systems Experience building and maintaining automated tests across the entire stack Experience working in a coaching and supportive manner with development teams Ability to identify risks early and translate them into concrete actions Technical Experience (Desirable) Designing test strategies for unit, integration, E2E, and regression tests Programming in languages such as TypeScript, Node.js, .NET, or similar Test automation frameworks like Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, or testcontainers Testing REST APIs and microservices Performance and load testing, for example with k6 Docker and container-based environments Approaches like TDD CI/CD Ideally you're based in Umeå, where much of our development work takes place. We value curiosity, openness, and a positive attitude. We strive to create a good environment for learning and personal development, and we provide a personal training budget for every employee so that we can continue learning.
