About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now seeking additional staff members. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the cycle of crime. If we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation services, remand facilities, and client transportation. Probation Services Northern Norrland encompasses the counties of Västernorrland, Västerbotten, and Norrbotten and has staffed offices in Luleå, Gällivare, Umeå, and Sundsvall. We are now seeking probation officers for Team 1 and Team 2. In Team 1, you work primarily with various processes, including pre-sentence investigations, electronic monitoring, detention matters, community service, and supervision organization. In Team 2, you work primarily with supervision and long-term client work. The role involves collaboration with other authorities. Travel is required in both positions, and in Team 2, more frequent travel to our branch office in Skellefteå may occur. Interviews are expected to be conducted in week 35. Job Description Probation Services activities should be perceived as clear and predictable. This is achieved, among other things, by carrying out work in the manner we have determined and described. Probation Services' dual mandate—to both control and support clients—is important regardless of which role you hold within probation work. In its work, Probation Services must collaborate with other actors to ensure clients receive the support they need. As a probation officer, you are responsible for conditionally released clients and clients sentenced to protective supervision who are under supervision. Probation Services is also responsible for electronic monitoring, known as electronic tags, and community service. Work within Probation Services also includes investigative work, conducting risk and needs assessments, and developing plans for sentence execution. The work tasks also include conducting pre-sentence investigations and providing statements to the court and recommending appropriate sanctions. As a probation officer, you actively participate in intervention work directed toward clients, including structured case officer conversations based on CBT, motivating participation in program activities, and assisting in release preparation for clients in custody. The probation officer is responsible for ensuring the client executes their sentence/completes their supervision and coordinates all measures in the client's sentence execution plan. The work of a probation officer consists of two equally important parts: both support and control. If a client fails to comply with their supervision, you as a probation officer must be able to address non-compliance in accordance with regulations. You need to be able to manage the complexity of working with both the support and control functions, which can be challenging. You have a good understanding of how people acquire knowledge and adapt your way of conveying messages to the recipient's circumstances.
