Region Uppsala civil contingency places all permanent employees according to total defense requirements. For individual employees, this entails no obligations in peacetime and is solely a planning measure. Prior to employment decisions, a check of suspicion and criminal records is conducted for all job applicants who in the sought position may work within psychiatric care, habilitation, care of children and youth, or compulsory care of substance abusers—areas covered by optional register extracts. This applies to all who will work directly with patients, even if current work tasks are not intended to primarily involve work with the above-mentioned patient groups.
