Mechanical Engineer - MicroDri
MicroDri is a Swedish deep-tech company based in Linköping, developing next-generation industrial drying systems based on continuous microwave technology. The company's technology enables materials to be dried faster, with greater control, and at lower energy consumption than conventional methods — addressing a key bottleneck in many energy-intensive industrial processes. The company originates from Swedish industrial innovation and was founded as a spin-off from Saab AB. Since its inception, MicroDri has built a strong technical platform within microwave technology, mechanical engineering, control systems, and industrial process development. Development has taken place in close collaboration with industrial and academic partners. With us, you won't just create CAD designs — you'll follow the entire journey from idea and design to finished product and real-world functionality. For the right person, there is also an opportunity to gradually take on greater technical responsibility within the company and help lead the development of MicroDri's solutions. About the Role As a Mechanical Engineer at MicroDri, you will play a key role representing mechanical design expertise within our technical team. You will work broadly and hands-on with development, mechanical design, prototyping, assembly, and testing. This role goes beyond traditional mechanical design. You will participate in early concept discussions, develop mechanical solutions, work closely with manufacturing and testing, and contribute to dialogues with external suppliers and partners. Over time, we see the role evolving into a broader responsibility for the mechanical engineering area, where you will coordinate design-related matters, supplier interactions, and technical decisions connected to mechanical development. We are looking for someone who understands what happens after a drawing leaves the screen — how components are manufactured, assembled, tested, and function in real-world conditions. The work is primarily carried out on-site in our workshop/facility, where you will be involved in both the construction and verification of our systems, as well as at our office in Linköping. We believe you have At least 6 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer Experience working with complex industrial product development A solid understanding of the entire development chain — from design to production and finished solution Experience working closely with manufacturing, workshops, or prototype building A practical and solution-oriented mindset The ability to work independently and take ownership within your area of expertise An interest in gradually taking on broader technical responsibility, for example within mechanical development, supplier dialogue, and technical coordination You need to have a broad technical understanding and feel comfortable taking responsibility in technical environments. You will work closely with our microwave experts, system/control specialists, and other parts of the development team. An extra plus if this sounds like you You are genuinely passionate about technology — even outside of work. Maybe you build your own projects at home, work on engines, or simply enjoy understanding how things really work. At MicroDri, we appreciate people who are willing to roll up their sleeves and are not afraid to get hands-on when needed. Why you will enjoy working with us You will work close to the technology and see the results of your work You will become part of a small company with big ambitions Short decision-making paths and a fast pace of change Opportunities to grow into a broader technical responsibility as the company expands The chance to help build the mechanical engineering function — not just execute predefined design tasks An environment for people who enjoy challenges and want to continue developing technically Location The office is located in Linköping, and the machine is currently manufactured in Norrköping (although we are currently looking for new premises mainly in Linköping). The work is primarily performed on-site. Application Are you ready for your next step and want to help build technology for real? We look forward to hearing from you. In this recruitment process, we are collaborating with Skill. We're reviewing applications continuously, so don't wait to apply. Your Qualifications To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, you must have a doctoral degree or hold a foreign degree that is assessed as equivalent to a doctoral degree. Your degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. It is meritorious if your degree was completed no more than three years before the application deadline for this position. If there are special reasons, it may be considered if the doctoral degree was completed earlier, for example due to various types of statutory leave. We are looking for you with a doctoral degree in computer science, but also related areas in systems engineering or mathematics with solid experience in software development related to the project's areas of interest. We also believe that you have excellent publications in journals and high-ranked conferences in areas relevant to the work, namely network modeling and protocol emulation in virtualized platforms, security analysis, threat vectors against AI and defense mechanisms in this context, intrusion detection, load balancing in edge networks, or denial-of-service attacks. Previous experience in developing security mechanisms, virtual test beds, application of AI or statistical methods for load monitoring or performance adaptation, as well as anomaly detection are particularly meritorious. You are excellent at oral and written communication in English, and are capable of working with other team members as well as performing independent work. Communication with industrial partners in the AIR2 project often takes place in Swedish, which makes knowledge of Swedish meritorious. Your Workplace You will work at the Cybersecurity Division (CYBER) at https://liu.se/organisation/liu/ida at Linköping University. Your research will be conducted together with Simin Nadjm-Tehrani, Professor in reliable systems and networks, within the Trustworthy Systems research group. The group participates in several national and international collaborations, including the new research center https://liu.se/en/research/resist where researchers in AI and cybersecurity develop new approaches for cyber-resilient AI to benefit Swedish industry and society. Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program, WASP, is Sweden's largest single research program in modern times. The program creates a platform for academic research and education in close collaboration with leading Swedish technology-intensive industry. WASP's vision is excellent research and expertise in artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and software for the benefit of Swedish industry.
