Description of the Position as Matilda's Personal Assistant Matilda is a 25-year-old woman with Rett Syndrome who lives in her own apartment with round-the-clock assistance (with on-call support at night). Matilda enjoys music, reading, films, and spending time with family and friends. She is normally an active person who loves exercise, dancing, swimming, traveling, and going to concerts, but due to pain-related issues, she currently sometimes needs support at a slower pace. You will become part of a wonderful team of assistants who will welcome you into the group and provide you with secure and safe onboarding/training. As Matilda's personal assistant, you will become an important part of her everyday life. You will: Assist with all ADL (personal hygiene, dressing and undressing, mealtimes, and more). Support her in activities and with certain mobility assistance. Read her body language and facial expressions (as she does not speak, but has much to communicate). Ensure she receives physical, intellectual, and social stimulation for a safe and meaningful everyday life. Be creative and flexible in finding solutions for her daily needs. Participate in her large circle of friends, where friends and assistants typically meet several times a week to do things together. Matilda can sometimes, due to her pain-related issues, display challenging behaviors. Therefore, it is an advantage if you have previous experience with situations that require calm and professional handling. You help with the things in everyday life that many take for granted, such as getting dressed, taking care of the home, personal hygiene, and participating in leisure activities. In this position, you will work as an assistant to a 12-year-old boy with autism. You will work with him at school where you meet him in the morning and then stay with him throughout the school day. As an assistant, you help him in the classroom, in the cafeteria, during bathroom visits, and on any outings. The boy has no spoken communication, so as an assistant you help interpret his language, which he expresses through body language, sounds, and gestures. The boy is physically active and you working with him need to have a lot of energy!
