Job Description as Assistant As a personal assistant, you work with a person with functional variation. You help with the things in everyday life that many take for granted, such as getting dressed, taking care of the home, personal hygiene, and participating in leisure activities. In this position, you will work as an assistant to a 12-year-old boy with autism. You will work with him at school where you meet him in the morning and then stay with him throughout the school day. As an assistant, you help him in the classroom, in the cafeteria, during bathroom visits, and on any outings. The boy has no spoken communication, so as an assistant you help interpret his language, which he expresses through body language, sounds, and gestures. The boy is physically active and you working with him need to have a lot of energy!
