Slope Manager at Small Ski Resort
About Almåsa Alpin is a cozy small ski resort in Offerdal in Krokoms municipality. The facility consists of two lifts and four slopes. The facility is operated by Destination Almåsa and the Almåsabacken Association, which means that many volunteers assist with operations and all employees have relatively broad job descriptions. You will thrive here if you love winter, care about giving others the opportunity for an active and fun leisure time, and are confident in taking great personal responsibility for safety. 1. Role Summary The Slope Manager is responsible for safety at the ski resort during operating hours, including lift inspections, slope security, and rescue operations in case of accidents or injuries. The role does not include personnel or budget responsibility, but the Slope Manager operationally leads and supports the volunteer staff (lift and ski rental personnel) on duty during the facility's operating hours. The Slope Manager is also responsible for ensuring guests receive good service and a positive experience at the facility. The Slope Manager works closely with the Facility Manager, who has overall responsibility for the facility and budget and follow-up responsibilities. 2. Main Areas of Responsibility Snow Management – together with the Facility Manager, hold overall responsibility for snow preparation before the season and additional snow grooming during the season. Snow grooming runs 24/7, and during this period workdays are longer. Slope Manager assists the Facility Manager in taking down fences for pastures if landowners request the facility to take responsibility for fence removal. Facility Safety – overall responsibility for safe operations during opening hours. Slope Safety – securing slopes before opening and continuously throughout the day. Lift Inspection – daily and monthly inspections of the facility's two lifts (button lift and anchor lift). Rescue Operations – attending to persons injured at the facility. Support for Volunteers – assist those working as volunteers in lifts and ski rentals. Scheduling Responsibility – together with the Facility Manager, manage volunteer schedules during the season. Support to Facility Manager in reviewing daily reports and planning maintenance needs. Contact with Emergency Services – when external assistance is needed for accidents or serious incidents. Guest Service – ensure guests receive good service and a positive experience at the facility, and set the tone through your own conduct for how volunteer staff treat visitors. 3. Requirements and Competencies Must be able to safely ski down all four slopes, even in rescue situations. Able to maneuver a rescue sled on skis. Driver's license/competency for snowmobile operation. Basic first aid knowledge. Able to identify and mark unsafe areas on slopes, such as thin snow cover or ice. Must be able to lead and instruct volunteer staff in a clear manner. Able to fix minor issues and perform ongoing maintenance on site during operating hours so operations do not need to be interrupted unnecessarily. More extensive maintenance and repairs are handled by the Facility Manager/external parties. 4. Working Hours and Season Approx. 80 hours of snow grooming work before the season plus one 8-hour workday for orientation. This occurs in November or December. The season runs from December 19 to April 4. Open on weekends and during school holidays. Slope Manager must be on site during all operating hours as stated above, or ensure that a replacement with equivalent competency is present. The position may be shared among multiple people if that proves to be the best option during the recruitment process. Weather, primarily cold and wind, may cause the facility to remain closed for the day. 5. Responsibility Boundaries Slope Manager has no personnel or budget responsibility. Scheduling, financial follow-up, and overall responsibility on site during operating hours rest with the Facility Manager. Slope Manager focuses on operational safety responsibility: lifts, slopes, rescue operations, and support to volunteer staff, as well as guest service and their satisfaction at the facility. 6. Compensation and Invoicing If the assignment is undertaken as a consultant assignment, the Consultant invoices the Client for work hours at 350 kronor per hour, excluding VAT. Invoicing is done monthly in arrears, based on a time report stating date and number of hours worked for each operating day. If the assignment is undertaken as an hourly employee, a corresponding hourly rate as an employee is provided.
Slope Grooming Machine Operator for Small Ski Resort
1. Summary of Assignment The slope grooming machine operator is responsible for preparing the resort's downhill runs with a grooming machine as needed, as well as preparing the lift access road and plowing the resort's parking area. In addition to public skiing on weekends, the facility is used during weekdays by ski clubs and a ski gymnasium, which means grooming sometimes needs to occur more frequently or at different times than for public skiing alone. This also includes basic maintenance and inspection of the machine. Operation typically occurs on Fridays and Saturdays, plus additional grooming sessions after closing during weeks when the resort is open daily (Christmas holiday, winter sports week 9–10, and week 12–13). 2. Main Areas of Responsibility Slope Preparation for Opening – Excavate and prepare downhill runs and lift tracks during the snow-laying period. Slope Grooming – operate the grooming machine to prepare the resort's downhill runs as needed, rather than strictly following a fixed schedule. Because the facility is used by club training and ski gymnasium during weekdays, in addition to public skiing on weekends, grooming needs vary throughout the week. Lift Access Road Preparation – prepare the lift access road to ensure it is safe and passable. Parking Lot Plowing – plow the resort's parking area as needed. Cost-Effective Operation – assess actual grooming needs and prioritize grooming sessions so the grooming machine is used as cost-effectively as possible. Machine Maintenance and Inspection – perform basic maintenance and daily inspection of the grooming machine. Safe Operation – operate the machine safely and be aware of terrain hazards (e.g., ice, rocks, thin snow cover). Reporting – report machine deficiencies, damage, or service needs to the facility manager. 3. Requirements and Competencies Experience operating a grooming machine and familiarity with driving in hilly terrain and winter conditions (darkness, cold, limited visibility). Extensive experience operating a grooming machine with a winch. This is a core requirement, not an advantage. Basic mechanical understanding to perform simple maintenance and detect faults early. Ability to assess slope and weather conditions to determine where additional grooming is needed and when operation should be postponed for safety reasons. Relevant operator license or training for the grooming machine, if required for the specific machine in use. 4. Work Hours and Season Work begins during the snow-laying period. The start depends on weather but typically occurs in the first half of November. Regular grooming for public skiing runs from December 19 to April 4. If the facility opens for training activities in November (depending on snow conditions), grooming work may begin earlier. Regular operation during the public season occurs on Fridays (in preparation for public weekend skiing) and Saturdays after closing (for the technical slope and additional runs as needed for Sunday). During weeks when the resort is open daily, additional grooming occurs after closing. The exact timing of grooming sessions in the afternoon/evening is to be determined by the grooming machine operator. 5. Scope of Responsibility The grooming machine operator is not responsible for safety, slope safety during operating hours, or rescue operations – this responsibility lies with the facility manager. The grooming machine operator also has no personnel or budget responsibility. The assignment is limited to operation and maintenance of the grooming machine as described above.
