Nyåkers Pepparkakor was founded in 1952 and is today the second largest gingerbread cookie producer in the world. In addition to classic gingerbread hearts and round gingerbread cookies in beautiful tins, the product range includes gingerbread cookies in several different flavors, including vanilla and orange, gingerbread dough, gingerbread houses, and organic gingerbread cookies. Nyåkers also manufactures almond cubes, cardamom biscuits, and about ten other small cakes. Nyåkers generates just over 90 million kronor in revenue today, with exports accounting for 40 percent. 90 percent of sales are gingerbread cookies. The major markets besides the Nordic region are the USA, Canada, and Japan. Since its start in 1952, the gingerbread factory in Nyåker has been renovated several times, and in August 2012 a new facility in Bjurholm was put into operation. Currently, Nyåker has 50 employees. Despite successes and growth over more than 60 years, Nyåkers remains a family business that values its traditions. The cakes are baked the same way they always have been - here in Västerbotten.
