Operational Airport Worker at South Lapland Airport
Do you want one of the inland's most varied jobs?
At South Lapland Airport, you'll have work where no two days are quite the same. Here, airport operations, rescue services, technology, safety, and critical infrastructure meet – and as an operational airport worker, you'll be an important part of all of this.
One moment you're working on the ramp with an aircraft's arrival and departure, the next you might need to handle snow removal on the runway, work with the airport's rescue services, perform vehicle and equipment inspections, or help with maintenance of the airport's facilities.
We're looking for someone who enjoys variety, takes responsibility, and thrives working together with others. With us, you'll have the opportunity to develop within several different areas and learn the specific knowledge and certifications required to work at an airport.
About the Job
As an operational airport worker, you're part of the airport's daily operations. You work closely with airlines, crews, passengers, and your colleagues to ensure that airport operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable regulations.
The work tasks are varied and may include:
Airport rescue services and duties as airport firefighter
Ramp and ground services in connection with aircraft arrivals and departures
Loading and unloading of baggage and cargo
Field maintenance and supervision of the airport's traffic areas
Snow removal and winter road maintenance
Handling and operation of airport vehicles and machinery
Inspection, maintenance, and minor repairs of vehicles, machinery, and technical equipment
Air navigation security and safety-related work tasks
Superivision and maintenance of airport facilities, from runway to hangars and other operational areas
Baggage and passenger handling
Documentation and administrative tasks related to operations
Other work tasks required for the airport's daily operations
The work is sometimes physically demanding and involves working outdoors year-round. In winter, snow removal and de-icing are an important part of operations, while other periods may involve a greater focus on maintenance, field work, and technical tasks.
Several of the work tasks require special training and certification. You'll receive these trainings through us during your employment.
About You
We're looking for someone who is responsible, thorough, and has a strong safety mindset. You're a person who sees what needs to be done and takes initiative when the situation requires it.
You need to be able to work in a structured manner following established procedures while also being flexible when circumstances change. At an airport, situations can change rapidly, and it's important that you can stay calm, prioritize correctly, and collaborate with your colleagues even when the pace increases.
As a person, you're a true team player. You contribute to a good work environment, help your colleagues when needed, and understand the importance of all parts of the operation working together.
We place great emphasis on personal suitability and your willingness to learn. You don't need to know everything from the start – what matters is that you have the right attitude, take responsibility, and want to develop with us.
Basic Requirements
To be a candidate for this position, you need to have:
C driver's license
Good physical fitness to meet the demands of training and service within airport rescue services
Normal color vision
Good skills in Swedish and English, both spoken and written
Basic computer skills
Ability to work according to established procedures and safety regulations
It's a merit if you have:
Training or previous experience as airport firefighter
Experience from airport, aviation operations, or ground services
Forklift license
Telescopic handler license
Experience in snow removal and winter road maintenance
Experience in machinery or vehicle maintenance
Experience in administrative work
Experience from security or surveillance work
Experience in plumbing, electrical, or hydraulics
We appreciate broad practical experience, but you don't need to meet all qualifications to be the right person for the position. The specific training and certifications required for the work will be provided to you during your employment.
Work Hours
The work is conducted as shift work and involves service during early mornings, evenings, and Sundays. Working hours vary depending on air traffic and operational needs.
Since airport operations may need to handle changed conditions and nationally critical assignments, a high degree of flexibility is required from our employees.
Security and Checks
South Lapland Airport conducts security-sensitive operations. As part of the recruitment process, security clearance and background checks will be conducted in accordance with applicable regulations.
Before employment, relevant tests and checks will also be conducted through occupational health services, including alcohol markers, drug testing, and physiological tests related to the position's requirements.
You Will Receive:
Varied work where tasks change with operational needs and seasons
Opportunity to receive training in several different operational areas
Work with modern airport operations and critical infrastructure
Opportunity to develop both practical and technical competence
Colleagues with diverse expertise where we solve today's tasks together
At a smaller airport, every employee has significant responsibility. This means you'll have the opportunity to make an impact, develop, and see the results of your work every day.
